Ather 450X, 450 Apex, Rizta Z Gets AI-Powered Voice Assistance For Everyday Tasks

Unlike conventional voice systems that rely on specific commands, Ather's new setup uses large language models (LLMs) and natural language processing to understand conversational speech. The company says the system has been designed to recognise a wide variety of Indian accents and dialects, helping improve accuracy during real-world usage. The feature allows riders to perform several commonly used tasks without needing to interact with the touchscreen. The update is being distributed through over-the-air (OTA) software upgrades, with eligible customers gradually gaining access. It is currently avialble for Ather 450X, 450 Apex, and the Rizta Z models.
Features include:
- Starting navigation to a saved destination
- Finding the nearest charging station
- Adjusting screen brightness
- Switching traction control modes
- Sharing live location
- Making phone calls from synced contacts
- Controlling music playback and media functions

Since the system understands conversational phrases, users are not restricted to predefined keywords, making interactions more intuitive. The newly introduced voice command functionality appears to be only the first step in Ather's broader AI roadmap. The company is reportedly working on more interactive two-way communication capabilities that would allow scooters to proactively engage with riders rather than simply respond to commands. Future updates could enable the scooter to provide real-time alerts and suggestions, including warnings about potholes, tyre pressure issues, ParkSafe notifications, and other vehicle-related updates as well.
Compatible With Multiple Headsets But Not Available On All Models
Voice commands can be accessed through Ather's Halo smart helmet, which was introduced earlier as part of the brand's connected ecosystem. The feature also supports third-party Bluetooth communication devices, including popular helmet headset brands such as Sena and Cardo. This broader compatibility should allow existing owners to use the functionality without needing to invest in additional hardware. However, while the rollout covers most of Ather's premium offerings, the feature is currently unavailable on the Ather 450S and Rizta S. These models do not support the new voice command system due to hardware limitations.
Verdict
With the introduction of voice commands, Ather continues to strengthen its reputation as one of the most software-focused manufacturers in the Indian two-wheeler market. The feature brings a more hands-free and connected riding experience, allowing users to access key functions through natural speech rather than touch inputs. While its availability is currently limited to select models, the addition of AI-powered interaction and the promise of future two-way communication suggest Ather is laying the groundwork for a more intelligent and proactive electric scooter ecosystem.
