Konarc Highlights

On Target:

Buyers who want Ather's premium engineering and tech at a more accessible price, without stretching for the 450 range.

What We Like:

Ground-up engineering, not a cheaper Rizta, longest wheelbase, real suspension travel, quick-swap serviceability.

What We Don't Like:

Claimed 200km range doesn't show up anywhere in the lineup yet, TrueRange tops out at 130km, and the entry S 100 still gets drum brakes with just a 4.2 inch display.

Expert Verdict on Konarc

The Konarc is arguably the most important scooter Ather has ever built, its first real step into mass-market territory, where the bulk of two-wheeler sales actually happen. At a starting price of Rs 1 lakh, it's a well-engineered product aiming to deliver a premium experience, backed by a genuinely capable chassis and platform. But the segment-first features that could truly set it apart, AutoPop, MagicKey and AEBS, are all reserved for the range-topping Z variant, whose pricing hasn't even been announced yet. That said, The Konarc gets the fundamentals right; it's the features that need to catch up to the price tag.

Pros & Cons of Konarc

What we admire in this scooter

Real-world TrueRange caps at 130km on the flagship S 161, a full 31km short of its own IDC claim

Rs 1 lakh buys drum brakes front and rear, a phone-sized 4.2 inch display, and no music or call alerts over Bluetooth

The headline safety tech, AEBS, only exists on the priciest Z 161, not across the line Ather is advertising

MagicKey's boot AutoPop, and dashboard Google Maps and WhatsApp are Z-only exclusives, absent even on the mid-spec S 125

Walk into an Ather Space for the base variant and you're choosing between two colours while everyone above you picks from four

What could have been better

TrueRange (80-130km) sits well below the IDC figures (100-161km)

Base S 100 gets drum brakes on both ends, a 4.2 inch display, no Ather Grid access, and no BT call/music alerts

AEBS, MagicKey with boot AutoPop, and dashboard Google Maps/WhatsApp are locked to the Z variant only

Base variant limited to 2 colours versus 4 on the rest of the range

Should I buy the Konarc?

If you're looking for a practical, well-built first EV scooter for daily commuting and don't need the flashier tech, the S 125 makes the most sense, it balances range, disc brakes and Ather Connect without overpaying for what the base variant lacks. Hold off on the Z variant until Ather announces its price, since paying a premium for AutoPop, MagicKey and AEBS only makes sense once you know exactly what that premium costs. For most buyers, the Konarc is a solid, sensible upgrade from a petrol scooter, just don't walk in expecting the S 100 to feel as premium as the reviews around this launch might suggest.
