Personality

Let's start with the basics, but not from the very minute details; we all know how they both look, right? Also, the Thar facelift doesn't bring any updates to the exterior except the dual-tone bumpers. Apart from this, it still looks the same as before. It carries that big, muscular personality, wide and tall road presence that turns heads everywhere it goes. The Maruti Jimny, on the other hand, is small, compact, and neatly proportioned with that boxy design. It has that cute yet unique charm that doesn't intimidate.

Features And Interior

Stepping inside the 2025 Mahindra Thar, you'll be greeted with a new dash layout along with a new steering wheel borrowed from the elder sibling, Thar Roxx. It now has a 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment with wireless connectivity. Apart from this, some of the additional features include rear AC vents, reverse parking camera, rear wiper and washer, internally opening fuel lid, and power window switches on doors. Meanwhile, the safety package includes dual airbags, ABS with EBD, three-point seatbelts and ESC. Notably, the Thar 3 door has secured 4 stars in the GNCAP crash tests.

When it comes to the Maruti Jimn, it offers a neatly laid dashboard with a 9-inch touchscreen infotainment system along with wireless connectivity. While some other features include automatic climate control, cruise control and keyless entry, etc. Meanwhile, the safety is handled by six airbags, ESP, ABS, with EBD, hill hold assist and more.
Powertrains
The Mahindra Thar offers you plenty of powertrains to choose from. These include: 1.5-litre turbo diesel, 2.2-litre turbo diesel and a 2.0-litre turbo petrol unit. Moreover, the transmission options include a 6-speed manual and a 6-speed torque converter unit. On the other hand, the Maruti Jimny only comes equipped with a 1.5-litre, NA petrol engine, which comes paired either with a 5-speed manual or a 4-speed torque converter unit.
Pricing
When it comes to the pricing, the Thar facelift starts at Rs 9.99 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top spec LXT AT. On the other hand, the Jimny sits a bit higher at Rs 12.31 lakh (ex-showroom) and goes up to Rs 14.44 lakh (ex-showroom) for the top spec, which is Rs 2 lakh lower than the Thar's top spec.

Verdict
Both SUVs cater to very different kinds of buyers, and that's exactly what makes this comparison interesting. If you're looking for a powerful, rugged SUV that delivers strong performance, a commanding road presence, and better overall versatility, the Mahindra Thar is the clear choice. It now offers more features, multiple engine options, and that unmistakable lifestyle appeal that makes it stand out. However, if your priorities lie in daily practicality, compact dimensions, and a smoother, city-friendly experience with genuine off-road capability, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny still makes a lot of sense. In short, the Thar appeals to your heart, while the Jimny appeals to your head.
