The new Thar has become popular in its segment and consistently tops the sales charts for off-road SUVs under Rs 20 lakh. It offers multiple engine and transmission options, which adds to its appeal. However, the second row of seats is not easily accessible, and the limited boot space is a drawback. In contrast, the Maruti Suzuki Jimny has a 5-door configuration, making it more practical than the Thar. Additionally, the Jimny offers a more comprehensive feature package, which gives it an advantage over the Thar.
- The new Mahindra Thar keeps its old-fashioned appeal while also having a modern look. The front of the car has changed a lot, with a more sophisticated design compared to the previous model. The front of the car also has LED daytime running lights, halogen lamps, and indicators on the fenders.
- The Thar now has different roof options for buyers to choose from: hard top, soft top, or convertible top. The side profile stands out with its large 18-inch alloy wheels that fill the wheel wells. Additionally, the Thar features round wheel arches at the back, which contrast with the square wheel arches at the front.
- With the facelift, Mahindra has increased the Thar’s color options, adding two new shades: Tango Red and Battleship Grey. Additionally, the SUV’s machismo factor is enhanced with a new dual-tone bumper, and body-coloured grille.

The team noticeably enhanced the dashboard, and one of the standout features is the 7-inch touchscreen infotainment system. - Mahindra has also introduced Adventure Statistics Gen II, which provides off-road enthusiasts with real-time data and other adventure-focused readouts - perfect for those who love taking the Thar beyond city roads.
- Mahindra has also added a sliding armrest in the central area, with rear AC vents located below it, making the cabin more passenger-friendly. Additionally, the fuel lid is now operated internally, replacing the old manual key system. This is a welcome feature and signals that the Thar is becoming more modern.
- Lastly, rear washer and wiper is added, which improves real visibility especially during off-roading sessions.
- The Thar comes with three distinct engine choices and two drivetrain options. These include a, 2.2-litre mHawk diesel engine paired with a 6-speed MT and AT gearbox, a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine available with MT and AT gearboxes, and a 1.5-litre diesel engine coupled with a manual transmission.
- Regarding the drivetrain options, it provides both Rear-Wheel Drive (RWD) and Four-Wheel Drive (4WD) choices. The RWD offers by Mahindra is with the 1.5-litre diesel engine and the 2.0-litre petrol engine. In contrast, the 4WD drivetrain is available with the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol engine.
