Mahindra Thar Facelift Launch On September 23- Big Upgrades In Sight This Time

Mahindra's Thar has long been the go-to SUV for adventure seekers and off-road enthusiasts in India. With the launch of the five-door Thar Roxx earlier this year, Mahindra redefined what the 'Thar' badge could mean by introducing premium features and a modern design. However, the three-door version continued unchanged. That's about to change, as the 3-door Mahindra Thar facelift is set for launch on September 23 this month, bringing much-needed updates to its design, features, and cabin experience.
Spy shots from earlier confirm that the refreshed 3-door Thar borrows several styling cues from its bigger sibling, the Roxx, like the signature vertical slat grille, sleeker LED projector headlights with C-shaped DRLs, and a redesigned front bumper with integrated fog lamps. LED turn indicators also make their way to the facelift, further modernizing its look while retaining the Thar's rugged DNA. While this was all about the exteriors, the cabin has been revamped as well to mirror the Roxx footsteps.
Interior & Features- ADAS, Bigger Touchscreen, & More

Inside, the Thar facelift sees its biggest transformation yet. A new freestanding 10.25-inch infotainment system takes center stage, replacing the older 7-inch unit, and now supports wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. The steering wheel has also been upgraded, mirroring the one found on the Thar Roxx, and sits ahead of a 10.2-inch fully digital instrument cluster. The upgrade this time will also potentially introduce level-2 ADAS, something that is missing on the current model. Apart from this, the cabin could use some refreshed upholstery and more tweaks for distinction.

Powertrain

Mechanically, Mahindra is sticking to the proven formula. The facelifted Thar will continue to be offered with the 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel, and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol engines. Buyers can choose between a manual or a 6-speed torque converter automatic gearbox, along with RWD or 4WD configurations. This ensures the SUV continues to balance everyday usability with serious off-road prowess, depending on what you intend to do with it.
Mahindra has revised prices for its popular off-roader, the Thar, with reductions of up to Rs. 1.35 lakh (ex-showroom). On top of that, buyers can avail of additional benefits worth Rs. 20,000, taking the total savings to Rs. 1.55 lakh. With these changes, the Thar range now starts at 910.32 lakh (ex-showroom). Interestingly, Mahindra's official website mentions that fresh prices will be announced soon, hinting at a possible update once the facelifted Thar makes its debut on September 23.
Verdict
The Mahindra Thar facelift (3-door) promises to retain the SUV's raw, go-anywhere attitude while finally catching up with modern expectations in terms of technology and design of the Roxx. By bringing in premium features from the Roxx while keeping the powertrain lineup familiar, Mahindra seems to have struck the right balance between evolution and tradition. For those who wanted the Thar's iconic character without compromising on tech, the September 2025 facelift could be the ideal fit.
