Tata Sierra: Classic Styling Meets Modern Design Cues

Despite the heavy camouflage, the Tata Sierra and its distinctive silhouette is unmistakable. The upright bonnet, squared off rear profile, and signature quarter glass panel stay true to the original's DNA, while modern touches like flush-fitting illuminated door handles, slim LED headlights, and a horizontal light bar bring it up to speed with Tata's current design language. A wide rear spoiler, flat tailgate, and sculpted bumper further enhance its bold stance.

Although the interiors were kept away from the peeking camera, inside, the Sierra is expected to house a futuristic triple-screen setup, a 12.3-inch central infotainment screen, a 12.3-inch fully digital driver's display, and another screen for passengers. Feature highlights will likely include Level-2 ADAS, a 360-degree camera, ventilated front seats, and a panoramic sunroof. The contrasting black roof design with glasshouse-like styling promises an airy and spacious cabin experience, something that is peculiar to the Sierra's aesthetics since its inception.
Powerplant: EV First Then ICE

The Tata Sierra will be offered with multiple powertrain choices. The electric variant, likely debuting first, could borrow the Harrier EV's dual-motor setup, offering AWD capability and a claimed range of over 500 km. Supporting DC fast charging and advanced tech like Vehicle-to-Load (V2L) and Vehicle-to-Vehicle (V2V), the Sierra EV aims to be as practical as it is premium. For ICE enthusiasts, Tata is expected to equip the Sierra with the new 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine producing around 168 PS and 280 Nm, alongside the tried-and-tested 2.0-litre diesel with nearly 170 PS and 350 Nm while being paired to both automatic and manual transmissions.

Launch Timeline

With the Sierra EV lined up for release first, the Sierra ICE is expected to follow soon after, with production likely beginning early next year. Given the festive season buzz and Tata's aggressive EV roadmap, we could see the Sierra EV taking center stage before its ICE sibling, potnetially around this festive season as conveyed at a dealer and investors meet earlier this year.
Verdict
Tata, after revamping its Safari model for the modern times, is now ready to replicate the same for its iconic nameplate, the Sierra. While Tata is now known as a major SUV palyer, it has a similar reputation for being the EV pioneer as well in India, with one of the most comprehensive portfolio of EVs. Sierra will be joining both its EV as well as the ICE stable and while it will be sharing quite a few components with the exisiting Tata models, its is the classic Sierra design of expansive glasshouse that will be its main selling point.
