2020 Mahindra Thar Roof Options Explained - Soft Top, Convertible and Hard Top

Mahindra unveiled the all-new Thar this Independence day, and ever since it made its public debut, there has been a lot of buzz around it. The new Thar is leaps and bounds better than its predecessor. The UV maker has finally launched the new 2020 Thar with a very aggressive starting price of Rs. 9.80 lakhs, Ex-showroom pan-India. The new Thar is available in multiple variants, and it gets several roof configurations. So, today we will explain the roof options available with the new 2020 Mahindra Thar.

Fixed Soft Top

The first option we get with the all-new Thar is a fixed soft-top roof. This option isn't new as it was available with the older Thar too. The soft-top roof is available only with the base AX variant, which is geared towards the hard-core off-road junkies. It has a straightforward mechanism. The roof is made of canvass just like we used to get with the previous generation Thar. This soft-top can also be taken out, but it is a cumbersome process as it has not been designed that way. Moreover, you cannot store the canvass in your SUV. So, it isn't convenient and is suitable for adventure enthusiasts only.

Convertible Soft Top

The next option which we get with the new Thar is a convertible soft-top for the roof. This mechanism is new as it was not available with the older Thar. The convertible soft-top roof is available with the AX optional and the LX variants. As the name suggests, it also gets a soft-top roof, but it has been designed brilliantly to make it a convertible 4X4 SUV. So, it gets removable windows that have been fastened with the help of zippers and velcro. Just unzip them, then get inside the SUV and open up the latches, and you are good to go! Similarly, you can get the soft-top roof back also very quickly.

Hard Top

The last option which we have for the all-new Thar is a hard-top roof. Like the convertible soft-top option, it has also been introduced for the first time with the Thar. The 4X4 SUV gets a factory-fitted hard-top option for the roof, and it makes it an efficient SUV for the city runabouts too. Thanks to this hard-top roof option, now even a family man can drive it every day & everywhere, even during the rainy season, as it is entirely waterproof. However, it is worth mentioning that the roof panels are not welded to the SUV, but they have been placed firmly and integrated nicely.
