Previously, the Yamaha RAY ZR was on sale in India with a 110cc BS4-compliant engine. However, in 2020, Yamaha Motor India made a major breakthrough and launched a more enhanced version of the RAY ZR. The new 2020 Yamaha RAY ZR is powered by a more powerful 125cc BS6-compliant engine and gets a lot of cosmetic changes and mechanical updates. Yamaha sells three BS6-compliant scooters in India: Fascino 125, Cygnus RAY ZR 125 and the RAY ZR Street Rally 125. The RAY ZR Street Rally 125 is the flagship Yamaha scooter currently on sale in the country.

2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally 125 BS6: Looks, Dimensions and Colour Options
The new 2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally 125 is the most sporty-looking scooter in its class. Aesthetically, if we compare the RAY ZR Street Rally version with the standard RAY ZR, so the Street Rally version gets additional cosmetic bits. For instance, the RAY ZR Street Rally model gets knuckle guards, knobby tyres for better off-road duties, metallic shrouds on the body panels and red-coloured rear shockers, which the Cygnus RAY ZR doesn't get. Upfront, this scooter gets a short fly-screen (visor) and it looks very muscular, thanks to its beefy design language. Although the scooter doesn't get an LED headlamp and taillamp, it gets an MT logo shaped LED DRL on the handlebar.
This new RAY ZR Street Rally 125 measures 1880 mm in length, 750 mm in width and 1190 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1280 mm and the saddle height stands at 785 mm. The RAY ZR Street Rally is one of the lightest scooters in its segment weighing around just 99 kilograms (with oil and a full fuel tank). It gets a minimum ground clearance of 145 mm and has a massive 21-litres of under-seat storage. The new RAY ZR is available in only two funky colour options. These are Purplish Blue Metallic and Sparkle Green. Overall, the scooter has a striking appeal and looks really good.

2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally 125 BS6: Engine, Transmission and Mileage
The new 2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally gets a new powerplant. It is powered a BS6-compliant 125cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled, fuel-injected engine. This motor churns out 8.2 PS of power at 6500 RPM and 9.7 Nm of torque at 5000 RPM and comes mated to a V-belt automatic gearbox. This new powertrain gets a smart motor-generator which starts the vehicle without any jolting sound and it also gets a stop & start system. What this stop & start system is that if the scooter is at stop and idling, it stops the engine to save fuel and the rider can instantly restart it by just simply twisting the throttle. Yamaha also claims that this new RAY ZR 125 BS6 is around 30 per cent more powerful and around 16 per cent more fuel-efficient than its BS4 counterpart. In real-life conditions, it will deliver around 40-45 kmpl of mileage.

2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally 125 BS6: Tyres, Brakes and Features
The new 2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally gets a 12-inch tyre at the front and a 10-inch unit at the rear. The front tyre measures 90/90-12 while the rear one measures 110/90-10 and both are tubeless tyres. Also, worth mentioning is that it gets block-patterned tyres. These block pattern tyres add to its overall tough look and adventurous styling and also makes it more capable to take on the rough road conditions. Moreover, this RAY ZR Street Rally version also gets Cast alloy wheels at the front.

Talking about brakes, it gets a 190 mm disc brake at the front and a drum unit at the rear. It also gets Yamaha's Unified Braking System (UBS) as an additional safety aid. The suspension duties are performed by telescopic front forks and a single spring-loaded shock absorber at the rear. Talking about other features, it gets an all-digital instrument cluster with white backlit, an in-built side-stand engine cut-off switch, etc. It also gets a multi-function ignition key switch with the help of which the boot can also be opened.

So, as mentioned before, the new 2020 Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally 125 BS6 is available in only one variant with front disc and rear drum set-up. It is priced at Rs. 71,530, Ex-showroom, Delhi. This sporty scooter rivals the other BS6-compliant 125cc scooters in the market which include the TVS Ntorq 125, Honda Activa 125, Suzuki Access 125, Hero Maestro Edge 125, etc. Talking about the verdict, so if you want a funky-looking muscular scooter with punchy performance, decent mileage, loads of features and good adventure capabilities too, then you should definitely consider buying the new BS6-compliant Yamaha RAY ZR Street Rally 125.
