The 160cc premium sporty commuter segment is booming at a very rapid pace in India. It is currently one of the most sought-after bike segments in the Indian market and has become the first preference of the youths. Hero Xtreme 160R is the latest entrant in this segment, but, recently TVS Motor Company has also updated the Apache RTR 160 4V for the year 2021. So, today in this article, we have a detailed specification-based comparison of the new 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V vs the Hero Xtreme 160R BS6.
The new Hero Xtreme 160R was launched in India in June 2020. Since it was launched just a few months ago, it didn't get any changes for the year 2021 and still looks the same as before. The Xtreme 160R is a handsome-looking motorcycle and it gets an all-LED headlamp with LED DRLs, LED taillamps and even the turn indicators are fully LED. The bike boasts of an aggressive stance. The Hero Xtreme 160R is currently available in four colours. They are Pearl Silver White, Sports Red, Vibrant Blue and 100 Million Edition.
For the year 2021, the TVS Apache RTR 160 4V has not got any changes and it still looks the same as the MY 2020 model. This means that it gets an all-LED headlamp with twin LED DRLs and attractive body decals that give it an aggressive appeal. The Apache RTR 160 4V features a sharp aerodynamic profile and gets an engine cowl too. At the rear, it gets a LED taillamp along with a new dual-tone textured single-piece seat. The TVS Apache 160 4V can be had in three colour options - Racing Red, Metallic Blue and Knight Black.

The new 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 is powered by a BS6 compliant 159.7cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This motor churns out 17.63 PS of power at 9250 RPM and 14.73 Nm of peak torque at 7250 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox and it gets TVS' Race-tuned (RT-FI) fuel-injection technology for enhanced power delivery and fuel economy. Moreover, it gets GTT or Glide Through Technology too for low-speed urban riding that offers an extremely smooth and controlled riding experience.
The new Hero Xtreme 160R is powered by a BS6 compliant 163cc, single-cylinder, air-cooled engine. This motor churns out 15.2 PS of maximum power at 8000 RPM and 14 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It is also equipped with Hero's XSens fuel injection system. Hero MotoCorp claims that the Xtreme 160R is the fastest bike in its segment as it can go from 0-60 kmph in just 4.7 seconds.
The new Hero Xtreme 160R, as well as the 2021 TVS Apache RTR 160 4V, gets telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock absorber at the rear. For braking duties, they get a disc brake at the front and the rear can be had with a disc as well as a drum unit. The Xtreme 160R as well as the Apache RTR 160 4V gets a single-channel ABS as an additional safety aid. Both the motorcycles run on 17-inch tubeless tyres. The Apache gets a 90/90 section 17-inch tyre at the front while at the rear, the drum version gets 110/80-17 and the disc version gets 130/70- 17 unit. The front tyre of the Xtreme 160R measures 100/80-17 and the rear one is a 130/70 section 17-inch radial unit. Both these motorcycles are very feature-loaded and they get an all-digital instrument cluster.
Finally, talking about price, so the new TVS Apache RTR 160 4V is available in two variants. The rear drum brake variant of the Apache RTR 160 4V is priced at Rs. 1.07 lakhs while the dual disc variant is priced at Rs. 1.10 lakhs. Talking about the Hero Xtreme 160R, it is also available in two variants. The rear drum brake variant of the Xtreme 160R is priced at Rs. 1.07 lakhs while the dual disc variant is priced at Rs. 1.10 lakhs. The Hero Xtreme 160R gets a limited period 100 Million Edition too and it is currently priced at Rs. 1.12 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi.
