2021 Yamaha R15 V4.0 0-120-0 kmph Acceleration & Braking Test

The Yamaha R15 has gained a cult following for its performance. Is the latest V4.0 the best yet? Lets find that out

The latest Yamaha R15 V4.0 has garnered quite the appraise for its revised looks and sensible upgrades. Feature-wise, the new bike sees quite the improvement with the introduction of a new quickshifter besides the slipper-clutch, and traction control, for the first time in its duration. The new bike is the same smooth as before, courtesy of the Variable Valve Actuation that helps pick up torque easily even at low RPMs. But how does that translate down to the road? To find that out, we recently conducted an acceleration test of the R15 V4.0. But before we get down to business, do join our 91Wheels Telegram and 91Wheels Whatsapp group to know more about vehicles, conduct discussions on your favourite ride, and much more!

The new Yamaha R15 V4 is powered by the same 155 cc single overhead camshaft fuel injection engine that churns out 18.4 Ps of power and 14.2 Nm of torque. During our acceleration test, the R15 V4.0 took around 4 seconds to reach from 0-60 kph, and 18.52 seconds to reach 120 kph. However, that is not its top speed, the R15 V4.0 can reach 140-145 kph as well.

Yamaha R15 V4.0: Braking

During our braking test, the Yamaha R15 V4.0 took 5.11 seconds to come to a standstill from 120 kph of speed. The braking was linear and smooth, and the new upside-down golden forks suspension at the front absorbed the braking dip quite well. Furthermore, the R15 V4.0 comes equipped with dual-channel ABS.

Verdict

The acceleration and braking of the new Yamaha R15 V4.0 have not changed as much. Power has decreased by 0.2 Ps and the torque has increased by 0.1 Nm in the new bike, but thats as much as it is. Real-world performances remain similar, and more importantly, the R15 V4.0 is familiarly agile. This is mainly because despite the redesign, the R15 V4 weighs the same 142 kgs as it used to before.
