KTM RC 390 Detailed Review

Looks & Design 9.5

The new KTM RC 390 looks completely different than the outgoing model. The front is all wide and new with a vertical LED headlight. The dual-projector headlamps are replaced by the new LED headlight which also resembles the other RC series motorcycles. The windscreen is big, the fuel tank is big at 13.7 liters, the seats are more comfortable, and the rear section is also redesigned. The design of the new bike looks more mature now & it resembles a segment above motorcycles. Overall, if you are in the market to buy a budget sports bike then the RC390 is your pick.

Summary

The looks & design of KTM RC 390 is attention-grabbing as well as aggressive.

Dimensions 9

The dimensions of the new KTM RC 390 are large than the outgoing motorcycle. The new bike is wider, longer, and higher than the previous version. The overall dimensions make it appear bigger than its actual size. Also, the KTM engineers have designed the overall dimensions in a manner that the new bike does not feel cumbersome to ride inside the city limits. It is nimble and easy to flick inside the city traffic due to its shorter wheelbase and well-defined handling characteristics. The RC 390 gets 158 mm of ground clearance and 1,355 mm of wheelbase. It weighs 172 kg.

Summary

The dimensions of the KTM RC 390 are nimble & easy-to-handle.

Engine Performance & Mileage 10

It is the engine and performance that the new KTM RC 390 is known for. The single-cylinder 373cc, liquid-cooled engine is capable of producing 42.9 hp or 43.5 PS of peak power. Also, this engine delivers a peak torque of 36 Nm at the rear wheel via the use of a 6-speed gearbox. KTM has equipped the slip and assist clutch function along the Quick-shifter+ technology to ensure the rider can seamlessly upshift even at the redline of the engine. To increase the torque, KTM has reworked and increased the air filter box area by 40 percent more. This ensures a linear power delivery to the rider. The ARAI-claimed fuel efficiency of the KTM RC 390 is still not out but expect it to give upwards of 25 kmpl which is brilliant for such a powerful bike. While it might not be an economical bike for some, it sure gets all the attention from the crowd and also is a super good option for someone who wants a sportsbike.

Summary

The engine and performance of the KTM RC 390 is powerful & fuel-efficient as well.

Tyres, Brakes & Features 9.5

KTM has equipped the RC 390 with 17-inch 5-spoke lightweight alloy wheels and tyres. The super sticky rubber helps in holding the tarmac easily even when the RC 390 is being ridden very hard around the corners. To ensure that the ballistic performance is well handled, the KTM engineers have equipped the RC 390 with BYBRE 4-piston calipers and 320 mm front with 240 mm rear disc brakes. On the feature front, the new RC 390 is embedded with the likes of – Multi-coloured TFT instrument cluster, adjustable suspensions, adjustable handlebars, riding modes, cornering ABS, quick-shifter, traction control, anti-hopping clutch, slip-assist function, etc. The new version is improved.

Summary

The tyre, brakes, & features of the KTM RC 390 are well-knitted according to the performance parameters.

Ride & Handling 9

The ride & handling has been a forte of the RC 390 sports bike. Although, not comfortable but the ride of the bike is commendable according to the segment standard. The fully adjustable suspension at both the tyres helps the rider to achieve a sweet combination of sporty yet comfortable ride quality. Similarly, the handling is the area that RC 390 has ruled for so long. To add to this fact, the new bike now comes equipped with 10mm handlebar raisers to make the city riding comfortable. While the removal of these raisers transforms the motorcycle completely into a track monster which is also fun to ride on the city streets as well as the highway traffic.

Summary

The ride & handling combination of the KTM RC 390 is well-balanced for city riding as well as track riding.
