Familiar Stance With Subtle Tweaks

Despite being heavily camouflaged, the test mule reveals a silhouette that's instantly recognizable. Mahindra doesn't seem to have tampered with the Boleros time-tested design formula - upright stance, boxy proportions, muscular fenders, exposed hinges and the signature tailgate-mounted spare wheel are all present. The overall length still appears to stay under the sub-4m mark, allowing the SUV to continue benefiting from favorable tax slabs.
The test mule was seen rolling on what look like 15-inch steel wheels with covers, while bumpers are expected to remain metal - a functional touch that many Bolero loyalists swear by. Though the camouflage hides finer details, expect Mahindra to freshen things up with new body colours, decals or minor trim changes to keep the look relevant without losing the rugged charm.
Interior Transformation Likely

The real story, however, might unfold inside the cabin. The current Bolero is one of the last Mahindra models with a bare-bones, utility-focused interior, and 2025 could mark a major shift. While spy shots haven't revealed the dashboard yet, upgrades such as a touchscreen infotainment system with smartphone connectivity, improved instrumentation, auto climate control, and rear AC vents are on the cards.
Safety equipment may also see a bump, with the possibility of up to six airbags, a stronger structure and modern convenience features like multiple USB ports and cooled storage spaces.
Engine and Performance
Under the hood, Mahindra is expected to retain the tried-and-tested 1.5L mHawk diesel engine, producing around 75 bhp and 210 Nm of torque, paired with a 5-speed manual gearbox. There's speculation that the more powerful 100 bhp mHawk unit, currently offered in the Bolero Neo, could also be introduced on higher trims. Either way, Mahindra is unlikely to compromise on the Bolero's reputation for durability and low running costs.
Launch Timeline
With test mules already on the road, the updated Bolero seems to be inching closer to launch. Given its silver jubilee significance, Mahindra might officially introduce the SUV later this year or early next, possibly alongside updates to the Bolero Neo.

Verdict
The Bolero has defied trends and competition by staying true to its identity. While most SUVs chase sophistication, the Bolero remains a symbol of simplicity, toughness and affordability - qualities that resonate deeply with its massive fan base, particularly in rural and semi-urban India. The 2025 update appears to strike a balance between modern features and the no-frills DNA that made the Bolero a legend.
