The Kia Seltos clearly has the advantage in terms of overall size, especially width and height, which translates to better cabin room and a more commanding stance. The Hyundai Creta is also among the largest in this segment, further reinforcing its road presence. The Volkswagen Taigun, although slightly smaller in overall dimensions, offers decent space, which helps optimise interior space. However, visually and proportionally, it still appears more compact compared to its Korean rivals. We are not going to get into what looks the best, given looks are subjective, but personally, the Kia Seltos, with its aggressive tigernose grille, is the one for me, especially in the all-black shade. Features & Technology

The facelifted Volkswagen Taigun finally addresses one of its biggest gaps by adding features like a panoramic sunroof, a larger digital instrument cluster, and an updated infotainment system with AI-based functionality. It also offers comfort-focused additions such as ventilated seats and even a rear seat massage function, which significantly improves its appeal. Despite these updates, the Hyundai Creta continues to feel more complete as an overall package. It combines dual integrated displays, powered and ventilated seats, a premium Bose sound system, and a comprehensive Level 2 ADAS suite, making it one of the most tech-rich and comfortable SUVs in the segment.

The Kia Seltos builds on a similar foundation but adds a stronger premium touch. Its cabin design, 64-colour ambient lighting, connected tech ecosystem, lumbar adjustments for the driver's seat, seat position memory, additional two USB-C ports, bigger digital cluster & infotainment screens, and feature execution give it a more upscale feel, especially in higher trims. Overall, while the Taigun has closed the gap, the Korean duo still leads in terms of perceived luxury and feature depth by a big margin, but with more space inside the cabin, the updated K3 platform, and the richer feature set of the Kia Seltos, it is the best out of all three in competition in this section.

Engine & Performance

The Volkswagen Taigun sticks to a petrol-only strategy with two turbocharged engines. The 1.0-litre TSI engine displaces 999cc and produces around 115 PS and 178 Nm of torque, making it responsive in city driving. The larger 1.5-litre TSI engine, displacing 1,498cc, delivers approximately 150 PS and 250 Nm of torque. It is paired with either a 6-speed manual or a 7-speed DSG gearbox and also features cylinder deactivation tech, which improves efficiency during cruising.

In comparison, the Hyundai Creta offers a broader mix of engines. Its 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol produces about 115 PS and 144 Nm of torque, tuned for smoothness rather than outright punch. It also offers a 1.5-litre turbo-petrol engine that generates around 150 PS and 253 Nm, paired with a 7-speed DCT, delivering stronger straight-line performance than the Taigun's smaller engine. The 1.5L diesel mill is also on offer with 115 PS power and a peak torque of 250 Nm.

The Kia Seltos mirrors this approach. It comes with a 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol engine producing about 115 PS and 144 Nm, along with a more powerful 1.5-litre turbo-petrol that makes roughly 160 PS and 253 Nm. Additionally, the Seltos also offers a diesel engine option, the same as that of the Creta, further enhancing its versatility for long-distance users.
