Bajaj-Triumph JV's Sub 2 Lakh Rupees Bike Delayed - Launch in 2023

It has been reported that Bajaj-Triumph JV's bike has been delayed to 2023 now due to delays that have been caused as a result of the pandemic wreaking havoc across the country.

The joint venture, which was announced in 2017 has been one of the most talked topics in the recent past. As per the agreement, both the brands will focus on a non-equity tie-up to develop mid-capacity motorcycles ranging from 200cc to 750cc.

The sub 2 lakh rupees bike which was supposed to be introduced in the market is expected to be based on the 200cc platform that underpins the Bajaj Pulsar NS200 and the KTM Duke 200. It is expected to have the same engine as that of the NS200 and the Duke 200.

As is the case with Bajaj and its partnerships, the bikes are expected to be heavily localised and manufactured at the Bajaj factory in Chakan. This will help the joint venture to price their bikes aggressively. This bike will have some of its design elements borrowed from the Bonneville. This bike is expected to rival offerings from Jawa and Royal Enfield.

2 Wheeler Brands and Their Joint Ventures

Seeing the success of the Bajaj-KTM partnership, many other 2 wheeler brands have followed suit and have formed their own joint ventures. Some these include TVS-Motorrad, Bajaj-Husqvarna, Jawa-Classic Legends and the most recent being Hero MotoCorp-Harley Davidson.

Platform and manufacturing unit sharing with the Indian brands has helped these foreign manufacturers to offer a premium yet affordable portfolio of motorcycles to the Indian customers and in turn, get sustainable sales figures.
