BMW 450 GS: Waiting Periods Already Stretching Into Months

Even before bookings were halted for the BMW F 450 GS, prospective buyers were facing lengthy waiting periods in several parts of the country. Dealerships in cities such as Mumbai and Bengaluru were reportedly quoting waiting periods close to 12 months, while customers in Hyderabad, Kolkata, and several other regions were being informed of delivery timelines ranging between six and eight months.

Customers who placed bookings during the initial reservation phase, particularly between November and December last year, are expected to begin receiving their motorcycles from next month onwards. For buyers considering the motorcycle today, the wait could become even longer. Even after bookings reopen later this year, delivery timelines are expected to remain extended due to the existing backlog.

Demand Surge Or Production Constraints?

The exact reason behind the booking halt remains unclear. One possibility is that the F 450 GS has significantly exceeded BMW's initial sales expectations in India. However, production capacity could also be playing a role. The motorcycle is manufactured at TVS Motor Company's Hosur facility near Bengaluru, which also produces several BMW models for domestic and export markets. Interestingly, another motorcycle built at the same plant, the recently launched TVS Apache RTX, has also been experiencing extended waiting periods in some markets. Whether the delays are linked to production ramp-up challenges, supply chain constraints, or export priorities has not been officially clarified by either BMW Motorrad India or TVS Motor Company.

BMW F 450 GS: Key Details

Launched in April 2026, the F 450 GS sits above BMW's entry-level offerings and targets buyers looking for a more capable adventure motorcycle without moving into the larger and significantly more expensive F 900 GS territory. The motorcycle is offered in three variants: Base, Exclusive, & GS Trophy. While the prices start at Rs 4.70 lakh (ex-showroom), the power comes from a newly developed 420cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine producing 48 bhp at 8,750 rpm and 43 Nm of torque at 6,750 rpm. The engine is paired with a six-speed gearbox and is designed to deliver a balance of touring capability, off-road performance, and everyday usability. Buyers can opt for a range of official accessories with a provision to lower the seat height as well for a more comfortable ride for short riders.
