Car Seat Belt Alarm Stopper Device Sales Ban - Details

Car seat belt alarm stopper

The car seat belt alarm stopper device has been a nuisance ever since it hit the car accessory market. This device is used to plug into the seatbelt, thus, removing the need of using the actual seatbelt. Hence, the drivers can enjoy a ride without the beeping sound of the seat belt alarm without even using the seatbelts. Therefore, it has been found that a lot of accident-related injuries and even fatalities have involved the role of this device. While it was already illegal to sell it, some online e-commerce websites were selling it without hiccups. Now, the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA) has now issued orders against the sellers and the platforms that promote the selling of seat belt alarm stoppers.

As per the new rule, the sellers and e-commerce providers are violating the Consumer Protection Act, 2019 by imposing life-threatening tactics, and by stopping alarms from beeping by clipping on a dummy device. The list of these websites includes the names like Amazon, Flipkart, Meesho, & Shopclues. Additionally, if any other website is also trying to sell this device; legal action shall be taken.

Verdict

The use of seat belts is not only a common traffic rule but also a basic life-saving step while driving or sitting inside a car. Multiple surveys over the years have indicated that seat belts are crucial life savers. But, just to avoid the inconvenience of sitting tight; a lot of people refrain from using seat belts. Hence, this new decision of banning online sales is a big step toward increasing road safety.
