CFMoto 450MT: Why the Delay?

The Indian government's policy changes mandating E20 fuel compatibility across new vehicles have led CFMoto's global team to re-engineer the CFMoto 450MT. The process involves engine remapping and other technical tweaks to ensure smooth performance while running on ethanol-blended petrol. The official announcement regarding the updated launch timeline will be made by CFMoto's yet-to-be-named Indian partner once these adjustments are complete.

The 450MT will be brought into India via the CKD (Completely Knocked Down) route, attracting a 10 percent customs duty. Combined with the updated GST structure, the motorcycle is expected to sit in the 40 percent tax bracket. If CFMoto manages to price it around under 4 lakh ex-showroom mark, it could prove to be a compelling option against segment rivals like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, KTM 390 Adventure, and others.
Engine & Hardware Details
At the heart of the CFMoto 450MT is a 449cc, parallel-twin, liquid-cooled engine producing 44 bhp at 8,500 rpm and 44 Nm of torque at 6,250 rpm. The motor, with its 270-degree crank, is paired with a six-speed gearbox. Internationally, the motorcycle has earned positive reviews for its performance and touring-friendly setup, and expectations for its India debut soon remain high.

Beyond the 450MT, CFMoto has several global models that could strengthen its portfolio here, including the 675cc three-cylinder lineup and the 700MT touring motorcycle. These could help the brand tap into both the adventure and performance-focused segments. Unlike its earlier stint, which struggled with limited dealer reach and low brand recall, CFMoto appears more prepared this time, with the 450MT spearheading its re-entry.
Verdict
While the delay in launch may disappoint enthusiasts waiting to get their hands on the CFMoto 450MT, the move to ensure E20 compliance underscores the brand's intent to build a long-term presence in India. If priced aggressively and supported by a stronger dealer network, the 450MT has the potential to put up a good fight int the mid-capacity ADV segment and position CFMoto as a serious player in the Indian market.
