EV Charging Stations Increased By Two-And-A-Half Times In Nine Megacities

Electric vehicles (EVs) are becoming more popular in Indian cities. Many states are giving incentives for the building of electric vehicle charging stations, and others are putting them in public spaces. According to a statement from the power ministry, EV charging stations have expanded by two-and-a-half times in the previous four months across nine megacities, including Delhi, Mumbai, and Chennai.

In the last four months, the government's efforts led to a 2.5-fold rise in charging stations according to a statement from the electricity ministry.

Between October 2021 and January 2022, 678 additional public EV charging stations were added in Surat, Pune, Ahmedabad, Bengaluru, Hyderabad, Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, and Chennai. These cities are home to 940 of India's 1,640 public EV chargers. The government has originally intensified its focus on the nine megacities with populations of more than 4 million people.

Many private companies have also stepped forward to install EV charging stations in order to develop a user-friendly charging network grid and acquire consumer trust.
