Hyundai Alcazar SUV - Is This The Production Name Of The Hyundai Creta 7-Seater SUV?

It has been in the news since a really long time that Hyundai is working on the seven-seater version of the Creta. The Hyundai Creta is a very popular SUV not just in India but all over the world. In most International countries, it is sold as the Hyundai ix25. The seven-seater version of the Hyundai ix25 has been spied multiple times on test in its native country, South Korea. Hyundai has now trademarked a new name for its upcoming all-new product (SUV) in India. The Hyundai Alcazar SUV name has been trademarked and everything hints that it will be the name of the production version of the Creta 7-Seater SUV in India.

The trademark for the Hyundai Alcazar name was applied in the month of April and the journal date is today's date (i.e. 20/06/2020). The story was first broken in India by MotorBeam. This document mentions that this name has been proposed to be used for a Sport Utility Vehicle (SUV). If we see Hyundai's Global portfolio, no product is named Alcazar in any country yet which hints that it will be an all-new SUV. Now, we all know Hyundai is working on the seven-seater version of the Creta and it will be launched in India too. So, in that case, most likely the Hyundai Alcazar will be the name of the production version of the Creta 7-Seater SUV.

We have seen the test mules of the Creta 7-Seater SUV multiple times being tested in South Korea. The 7-Seater Hyundai Creta will be an elongated version of the recently launched new-gen Creta. It will get a minor nip and tuck to differentiate it from the regular five-seater model. The seven-seater model will get a revised grille and new front parking sensors. It will be around 30 mm longer and a tad taller than the regular Creta. The 7-Seater Creta will have a longer wheelbase compared to its kin to accommodate three rows of seats. The rear design of the seven-seater model will be completely different from its sibling and it will get a more conventional design language with large taillamps and wrap-around LEDs.

The Hyundai Alcazar is expected to borrow powertrains from the regular five-seater Creta. This means that it will get a 1.5-litre naturally-aspirated petrol engine that will develop 106 PS and 142 Nm, a more powerful 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine with 140 PS of power and 242 Nm of torque and a 1.5-litre oil-burner. This 1.5-litre diesel engine will churn out 115 PS and 250 Nm. Talking about transmission options, the 1.5-litre gasoline will be mated to a 6-speed manual and a CVT, the 1.5-litre oil-burner will be coupled to a 6-speed manual and a torque-converter AT while the 1.4-litre turbo-petrol motor will be mated to a 7-speed DCT.

The Hyundai Alcazar will not just have three-rows of seats but it will be a more premium product with new features. Firstly, it is expected to make its official debut in the global markets and then will come to India. We expect that the Hyundai Alcazar SUV (7-Seater Creta) will hit the Indian showrooms by mid-2021 and once launched, it will rival against other 7-seater SUVs/MPVs like the MG Hector Plus, Tata Gravitas, Mahindra XUV 500, Toyota Innova Crysta etc. The 2020 Hyundai Creta SUV has recently achieved 30,000 bookings milestone within just six months of its launch in India. It currently retails between Rs. 9.99 lakhs - Rs. 17.20 lakhs and we expect that the 7-Seater model will be priced in the ballpark of Rs. 14 lakhs - Rs. 20 lakhs. All prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi.
