Hero MotoCorp is known for making affordable entry-level motorcycles and mid-capacity premium sporty commuters. This Indian bike manufacturer recently ventured into adventure motorcycle category and received an overwhelming response. Hero MotoCorp launched the Xpulse 200 in May 2019 and the Indian off-road junkies accepted it whole-heartedly. Upon launch, it was available in both carburetted and fuel-injected versions and was powered by a BS4-compliant engine. The official specs of the BS6 Hero Xpulse 200 have now been revealed and it will be launched really soon in the country. So, today we have for you the First Look Review of the new 2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6.

2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6: Overview

The new Hero Xpulse 200 is one of the most-affordable dual-purpose motorcycles in India. Being an adventure motorcycle, it gets a lot of off-road specific hardware components. Although it isn't a hardcore off-roader, it is very capable on all types of terrains. The Xpulse 200 created its own niche segment of affordable adventure motorcycle category. Since it is a low-capacity motorcycle and is very lightweight, it served as an ideal bike for amateur riders and off-road enthusiasts to learn off-road motorcycling. Moreover, Hero MotoCorp is also organising Hero XTracks in major cities of India to allow riders to experience the off-road prowess of this capable machine.

2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6: Looks, Dimensions and Colour Options

The Hero Xpulse 200 is an adventure motorcycle and thus gets a lot of off-road specific components. However, Hero MotoCorp has designed it in such a way that it doesn't look odd on the Indian roads and can be used for normal day to day commutes too. Upfront, the bike gets an all-LED headlamp, a small visor, knuckle guards, high mounted mudguards, an engine bash plate and an upswept exhaust for better water wading capacity and more. The Hero Xpulse 200 grabs eyeballs out on the streets, all thanks to its unique design language and tall-body stance.

Talking about dimensions, the Xpulse 200 measures 2222 mm in length, 850 mm in width and 1258 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1410 mm and the saddle height (seat-height) stands at 823 mm. Mind you, this isn't a motorcycle for short riders. The motorcycle weighs around 157 kilograms. This adventure motorcycle has a rough and tough build quality and offers a massive ground clearance. The ground clearance of this motorcycle stands at a whopping 220 mm. The new Hero Xpulse 200 is available in five colour variants - Panther Black, Matte Grey, Matte Green, White and Sports Red.

2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6: Engine, Transmission and Mileage

The BS4 Hero Xpulse 200 was available in both carburetted as well as fuel-injected versions. Also, the BS4-compliant version was air-cooled. However, the new 2020 Hero Xpulse 200 gets a BS6-compliant 199.6cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This BS6 version also gets Hero's XSens programmed fuel-injection technology that delivers better performance and fuel-efficiency. This new BS6 motor churns out 18.04 PS of power at 8500 RPM (BS4 was 18.6 PS at 8000 RPM) and 16.45 Nm of torque at 6500 RPM (BS4 was 17.1 Nm at 6500 RPM). The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. The Xpulse 200 delivers a decent mileage of around 35-40 kmpl.

2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6: Tyres, Brakes and Features

The Hero Xpulse 200 is based on a tubular diamond frame. It gets 37 mm telescopic forks at the front with 190 mm of travel and a 10-step rider-adjustable mono-shock absorber at the rear. It runs on dual-purpose tyres. the front tyre measures 90/90-21 while the rear one is a 120/80-18-inch unit. Moreover, since it is an adventure motorcycle, it gets spoke wheels with tubed-tyres. The braking duties are performed by petal discs at both the ends. It gets a 276 mm disc brake at the front and a 220 mm disc unit at the rear. It also gets a single-channel ABS as an additional safety aid. Some other features include an all-digital instrument cluster loaded with a ton of information. It also gets turn-by-turn navigation and smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth.

2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6: Price, Rivals and Verdict

The BS6-compliant version of the Hero Xpulse 200 will be launched soon in the country. Hero MotoCorp has already teased the BS6 Xpulse 200, revealed its specs and its bookings are also open. The last recorded price of the fuel-injected BS4-compliant version of the Xpulse 200 is Rs. 1.07 lakhs, Ex-showroom. We expect a minor hike in the process of transition from BS4 to BS6 and the new 2020 Hero Xpulse 200 BS6 will be launched in India around Rs. 1.15 lakhs, Ex-showroom Delhi. At this price, it does not has any direct rivals at all. However, indirectly it rivals the much more expensive adventure motorcycles like the Royal Enfield Himalayan 400, KTM 390 Adventure etc.
