Jeep entered the Indian market officially with the CBU models of their SUVs - Wrangler, Cherokee and the Grand Cherokee in India. Soon, the brand launched the Compass, which became a major success in the country. Now, Jeep is planning to launch more SUVs for the Indian market in the coming times and we may get to see affordable models too. The upcoming Jeep SUVs will start to arrive in India in 2021 and will boost the overall sales of the brand.
Jeep has not revealed many details about the upcoming SUVs yet. However, we will first get to see the 7-seater Jeep, which will rival the likes of Toyota Fortuner and Ford Endeavour in the Indian market. The all-new SUV is expected to be made especially for the Indian masses and will be based on the 7-seater Jeep Commander. Jeep launched the same car in the Chinese market last year.
The India-spec model of the 7-seater Jeep will be manufactured in India to keep the overall price of the product affordable and competitive. Jeep may use the 2.0-litre diesel engine that powers the Compass in the Indian market to power the new vehicle and will also offer a 4X4 version of it in the market.
Another much-awaited vehicle that the American brand may launch in India is the sub-4m compact SUV that will take on the likes of Hyundai Venue, Maruti Suzuki Vitara Brezza, Tata Nexon and Ford EcoSport. Since the segment is currently booming and new manufacturers are planning to launch new products in the segment, Jeep will utilise the boom with the new products.
The entry-level Jeep will get powered by a smaller version of the 1.6-litre diesel engine option or a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that powers the Compass. However, the power figures will be de-tuned for the upcoming SUV.
In other news, Jeep has been testing the new Wrangler Rubicon for a long time now and we will get to see the vehicle launching in the Indian market soon. The Rubicon Wrangler will be a CBU vehicle and will be launched in the coming months. Jeep is yet to officially announce any launches for the Indian market yet.
