Tata Safari EV: Platform & Powertrain Details

The Tata Safari EV is expected to be closely related to the Tata Harrier EV, sharing its underlying acti.ev+ architecture. Unlike ground-up electric vehicles, this setup is derived from an existing ICE platform, allowing Tata to bring the model to market faster. Battery options are likely to include 65 kWh and 75 kWh packs, paired with a rear-wheel-drive layout as standard. A dual-motor all-wheel-drive version is also expected, particularly with the larger battery option. While the Harrier EV delivers over 600 km of claimed range, the Safari EV, being larger and heavier, may offer slightly lower figures. Fast charging support of up to 100 kW DC is also anticipated.

One of the biggest upgrades for the Safari EV will be the introduction of Tata's TiDAL (Tata Intelligent Digital Architecture Layer). This new electronic architecture enables a wide range of connected and convenience features. Expect highlights such as over-the-air updates, a 540-degree surround view camera, enhanced Level 2 ADAS, auto park assist, and even in-car payment functionality. The SUV is also likely to offer multiple terrain modes, including options tailored for off-road conditions, along with a multi-link rear suspension setup designed to improve ride comfort.

In terms of design, the Safari EV is expected to retain the familiar silhouette of the standard Safari, with subtle EV-specific tweaks. Inside the cabin, the layout is likely to remain largely unchanged, but the focus will shift towards enhanced technology and software integration.
