Kia Sorento Launch Nears, Unofficial Bookings Open At Dealerships: Details Here

Kia India’s premium SUV plans appear to be moving closer to reality, with the upcoming Sorento Hybrid reportedly beginning to reach select dealerships. While the carmaker has not yet announced an official launch date or opened formal bookings, dealer-level enquiries and advance reservations are said to have started in some parts of the country.
The development follows Kia India's recent teaser campaign around its upcoming Hybrid Electric Vehicle (HEV) and Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) roadmap. The brand has not named the models featured in those teasers, but the Sorento Hybrid is widely expected to be among the first major hybrid products Kia will introduce in India.
Unofficial Kia Sorento Bookings Reportedly Begin

Sources at select Kia dealerships suggest that customers can place an informal booking for the Sorento Hybrid ahead of its official announcement. The booking amount is not uniform across outlets at the moment, with some dealers reportedly accepting a token payment between Rs 20,000 and Rs 25,000. A few dealerships are said to be asking for up to Rs 50,000.
Since these bookings are not yet part of a company-wide official programme, interested buyers should confirm whether the amount is refundable and understand the dealership's cancellation policy before making a payment.
Kia India is yet to reveal the Sorento’s final India-spec variants, pricing, powertrain choices or launch schedule. However, the fact that dealerships have begun taking customer interest could indicate that the SUV's market introduction is drawing nearer.
Kia Sorento Has Been Spotted Testing In India

The Sorento has already been seen undergoing road tests in India on several occasions. Test vehicles carrying temporary registration plates have been spotted on public roads, pointing towards ongoing validation work for local conditions.
These sightings have strengthened expectations that Kia is actively preparing the SUV for the Indian market. The Sorento is likely to be positioned above the Seltos and Carens in Kia India’s portfolio, giving the brand a more premium three-row SUV offering.
Once launched, it could compete with models such as the Skoda Kodiaq, Volkswagen Tayron, Jeep Meridian and higher variants of the Toyota Innova Hycross and Mahindra XUV7XO. It may also draw attention from buyers looking at larger ladder-frame SUVs, including the Toyota Fortuner and MG Majestor.
Kia Sorento Hybrid: Expected Powertrain Details

Kia has not confirmed the powertrain that will be offered with the India-spec Sorento. However, the hybrid version is expected to arrive first, especially considering Kia’s focus on HEV technology for India.
In international markets, the Sorento Hybrid is offered with a 1.6-litre turbo-petrol engine paired with an electric motor. The combined setup is linked to a six-speed automatic transmission, while drivetrain options vary between front-wheel drive and all-wheel drive depending on the market.
For India, reports suggest Kia could evaluate a hybridised 1.5-litre petrol engine as well. A conventional petrol version may also join the line-up later, although a diesel option appears less likely at this stage.
Globally, the Sorento Hybrid is capable of completing the 0-100 kmph sprint in roughly 8 to 9 seconds and can reach a top speed of around 190 kmph.
Kia Sorento Dimensions And Seating Layout
The global Kia Sorento measures 4,815 mm in length, 1,900 mm in width and 1,700 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 2,815 mm, which should help it offer a spacious cabin across all three rows.
The SUV is expected to be available with either a six-seat layout featuring captain seats in the second row or a more conventional seven-seat configuration with a bench-type middle row. The third row is expected to offer fold-flat functionality to improve luggage space when not in use.
The Sorento’s ground clearance in global markets stands at around 176 mm.
Expected Features And Safety Equipment
Kia is likely to equip the India-bound Sorento with a long list of premium comfort, technology and safety features. Depending on the variant, the SUV could get dual 12.3-inch displays, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, connected-car technology, over-the-air updates and a wireless phone charger.
Other expected features include a head-up display, Bose audio system, digital key, tri-zone climate control, panoramic sunroof, ambient lighting and premium leather upholstery. Higher trims could also offer ventilated and heated front seats, heated second-row seats and a power-adjustable driver’s seat with memory function.
On the safety front, the Sorento Hybrid is expected to come with multiple airbags, a 360-degree camera and a Level 2 ADAS package. This could include adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go function, forward collision avoidance assist, lane keeping assist, lane following assist, blind-spot monitoring, rear cross-traffic collision avoidance and highway driving assistance.
Kia Sorento India Launch Timeline
Kia India is expected to have a busy 2026, with new electric and hybrid models planned for the country. The Kia Syros EV is expected to debut towards the end of July before going on sale in August, while the Sorento Hybrid could arrive closer to the festive season.
If the reported dealer-level bookings are any indication, Kia may soon make an official announcement regarding the Sorento Hybrid. Final prices, variants and confirmed specifications are likely to be revealed closer to launch.
The Sorento could become an important product for Kia India, combining three-row practicality, premium features and hybrid efficiency in a segment that is seeing growing interest from buyers looking beyond conventional diesel-powered SUVs.
