Volvo EX90 Launched At Rs. 1.26 Crore

The Volvo EX90 is launched in India at Rs. 1.26 crore, ex-showroom. It is now the flagship offering from Volvo India and comes only as a 6-seater. The EX90 is Rs. 27.2 lakh costlier than its combustion-powered sibling, the XC90. However, the EX90 is far more modern and loaded with technology, whereas the current-generation XC90 has been around for more than a decade.

Volvo is also offering an introductory deal for bookings made before 31 December 2026. Every EX90 buyer will get an 11kW home charger, a 3-year service package and an assured buyback scheme (65 percent after 3 years).

Volvo EX90: Battery and Range

The EX90 comes with a single 106kWh battery pack that powers a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. The combined output is 456hp and 670Nm. This is enough for a claimed 0-100kph time of 5.5 seconds and a top speed of 180kph. The WLTP-rated range is 625km. In our review, the SUV returned an efficiency of around 5.5km/kWh, which translates to a real-world range of roughly 580km.

An 11kW AC wallbox takes around 11 hours for a full charge. The EX90 is built on the 800-volt SPA2 architecture, so it can charge at up to 350kW from a DC source. At that speed, a 10 to 80 percent top-up takes just 22 minutes.

Volvo EX90: Exterior

Volvo EX90

The EX90 carries forward Volvo's minimalistic styling with a few new-age touches. The front gets T-shaped LED headlamps with pixel-like DRLs and slim, vertically oriented fog lamps. There is no grille. Instead, you get the Volvo emblem in the centre and a trapezoidal air dam below.

The side profile is clean and upright. It comes with a 2,985mm wheelbase, 21-inch alloy wheels and a ground clearance of 210mm. Air suspension is standard, which lets you raise the ground clearance to a maximum of 250mm.

At the rear, the EX90 gets C-shaped LED tail-lamps connected by a black strip, along with LED arrays on both sides of the rear windscreen. The Volvo wordmark sits in the centre of the bootlid, and the bumper has a neat, discreet design. The SUV is offered in six colours: Crystal White, Denim Blue, Mulberry Red, Onyx Black, Sand Dune and Vapour Grey.

Volvo EX90: Interior and Features

The minimalist approach continues inside. The cabin gets a clean dashboard layout with two-tone Nappa leather upholstery, a three-spoke steering wheel, brushed aluminium trims, a huge 14.5-inch vertical touchscreen and a slimmer 9-inch driver's display. Physical controls are rare, as most functions are moved to the central touchscreen.

The India-spec EX90 comes only as a 6-seater, with second-row captain's chairs that slide and recline. Space and comfort are good for second-row occupants. However, these seats miss out on the electric adjustment, ventilation, heating and massage functions available in the front seats. There are also no sunshades for the rear windows, but there is a large panoramic sunroof with switchable transparency.

The third row is easy to access through the gap between the captain's chairs, though the chairs don't fold down. Space here is best suited for kids, or for adults on short drives. Boot space is 324 litres with the third row up and 690 litres with it folded. There is also a 46-litre frunk.

The other features include four-zone climate control, a 25-speaker Bowers & Wilkins sound system, configurable ambient lighting, 9 airbags, an ADAS suite, wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, a 360-degree camera, auto park assist, a digital key, a wireless charging pad and a cabin air purifier.

Volvo EX90: Rivals

The Volvo EX90 rivals electric luxury SUVs like the Mercedes-Benz EQS SUV 580 and the Kia EV9. These are priced at Rs. 1.49 crore and Rs. 1.30 crore, respectively. At Rs. 1.26 crore, the EX90 undercuts both of its chief rivals.
