KTM 790 Duke Officially Discontinued, 890 Duke R Coming To India soon

In one of our posts, we had reported that KTM was offering a 2 year extended warranty on the 790 Duke. We had also reported that post the BS6 norms kicked in, the Duke 790 was taken off the shelves. If reports are to be believed, the Duke 790 has been officially discontinued as KTM has decided not to upgrade the Duke 790 to Euro5 and in turn BS6 norms.

Being the first middleweight KTM bike to have made it to the Indian shores, about 100 units were brought to the country. All of the 100 units have been sold now. Existing owners need not fret as KTM will continue to support them. In fact, they recently announced warranty extensions for the bike that can be purchased at very nominal prices.

Powered by a 799 cc in-line twin-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that dished out 105 hp and 87 Nm of torque. A 6-speed transmission was mated to the motor by means of a slipper clutch. Duke 790 also offered four riding modes and switchable cornering ABS and traction control.

While the discontinuation of the Duke 790 does come as sad news to KTM fans all across the country, prospective buyers of the 790 should not worry as there is a Duke 890 R in the works. Nicknamed the "Super Scalpel", the Duke 890 R is essentially a Duke 790 on steroids. With an engine from the 790 whose, bore and stroke have been increased, the Duke 890 R produces 119 BHP and 99 Nm of torque.

KTM 890 Duke R could be launched in India in 2021 - Report

The Duke 790 when on sale was priced at 8.64 lakhs (ex-showroom). Now with a bigger engine and a host of upgrades to conform the engine to Euro5 and BS6 emission norms, it would be fair to expect the pricing of the Duke 890 R to be north of 10 lakhs (ex-showroom).
