Mahindra XUV 7XO: Important Features You Still Don’t Get!

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Mahindra XUV 7XO launched at Rs 13.66 lakhs ex-showroom
  • Offers a long list of features over the outgoing XUV 700
  • Misses out on a few features as well which comes across as surprising omissions; More details in this section

The Mahindra XUV 7XO has arrived as a major upgrade over the XUV700, packing cutting-edge tech like triple 12.3-inch screens, Level 2+ ADAS, Dolby Atmos audio and a premium cabin experience. However, despite its strong feature list, the XUV 7XO still skips a few practical and premium features that buyers may notice, especially when compared to key rivals and even more affordable models. Here's a closer look at the features missing on the XUV 7XO, what they do, and which competitors currently offer them. 1. Heads-up Display

A Heads-Up Display projects key driving information such as speed, navigation prompts, and ADAS alerts directly onto the windshield, allowing drivers to keep their eyes on the road. HUDs significantly improve safety and reduce distraction, especially during highway driving. Surprisingly, the Mahindra XUV 7XO misses out on this feature entirely. This is notable because newer launches, even a segment lower, like the Tata Sierra, now offer a HUD, and Maruti Suzuki has democratized this technology by introducing it even on smaller cars like the Maruti Baleno. In a segment where digital sophistication matters, the absence of a HUD feels like a missed opportunity for Mahindra's flagship ICE SUV.

2. Powered Tailgate

A powered tailgate adds convenience by allowing the boot to open or close electronically, often via the key fob or a foot-swipe gesture under the bumper. This is particularly useful when loading luggage with both hands occupied. While the XUV 7XO offers a premium interior experience, it does not feature a powered tailgate. In contrast, the Tata Safari provides a gesture-controlled powered tailgate on the Accomplished X variant, making it feel like a miss on the 7XO.

3. Camera Washer

A camera washer cleans the front and rear camera lenses using a dedicated washer jet. This ensures clear visibility during rain, slush, or dusty conditions, especially useful for SUVs frequently driven in varied environments. Despite offering an advanced 540-degree camera setup, the XUV 7XO lacks a camera washer. The Tata Safari counters this by offering a camera washer on the Accomplished Ultra trim, ensuring the surround-view system remains effective even in poor weather.

4. Rear Fog Lamp

Rear fog lamps enhance visibility for vehicles behind during heavy rain, fog or low-visibility highway conditions. While often overlooked, they are an important safety feature in real-world Indian driving scenarios. The XUV 7XO does not include rear fog lamps, whereas the Tata Safari equips them on the Accomplished X+ variant. For a vehicle positioned as a premium, highway-friendly SUV, their absence might not be noticeable at first, but its presence is a big safety boost.

5. Terrain Modes

Terrain modes allow drivers to optimise throttle response, traction control and stability systems based on surface conditions such as sand, mud, or gravel. These modes significantly enhance confidence and capability on broken roads or mild off-road trails. Despite its rugged image and optional AWD drivetrain, the XUV 7XO does not offer selectable terrain modes. The Tata Safari includes terrain response functionality on the Adventure X+ variant, reinforcing its go-anywhere appeal and making it more versatile beyond paved roads.

Verdict

There's no denying that the Mahindra XUV 7XO is one of the most tech-forward ICE SUVs currently on sale. However, features like a HUD, powered tailgate, camera washer, rear fog lamps and terrain modes, already available on rivals such as the Tata Safari or even smaller Maruti models, highlight areas where Mahindra could further strengthen its value proposition. None of these omissions are deal-breakers, but for buyers comparing top-spec variants feature-by-feature, they do make a difference. A future update could easily bridge these gaps and make the XUV 7XO even harder to ignore in the premium midsize SUV segment.
