Next-Gen Mahindra Bolero Spied Testing: Major Overhaul In Sight

New Gen Mahindra Bolero

In a notable departure from the current model's more geometric headlamps, the new-gen Mahindra Bolero will sport circular LED headlights, echoing the rugged charm seen on vehicles like the Thar and Roxx, soemthing that instantly grabs our attention. The front fascia appears much more upright, perfectly complementing the Bolero's inherently boxy profile. The signature grille, too, receives an update, featuring parallel-running slats instead of the angled design of the current generation. Completing the robust front aesthetic is a chunky bumper that is very Bolero-ish, in its overall styling.

Beyond cosmetics, safety is receiving a substantial upgrade. Spy shots clearly indicate the inclusion of Advanced Driver-Assistance Systems (ADAS), likely a Level 2 ADAS package similar to what's found in the XUV 3XO. This could bring a suite of modern safety features such as forward collision warning, lane departure warning, lane keep assist, auto emergency braking, and traffic sign recognition, which are expected to be available on the top-tier variants.

Earlier glimpses of the new-gen Bolero's side and rear profiles further reinforce its modernized yet rugged character. The boxy silhouette is more pronounced than ever, defined by a flat roof and an upright tailgate. While the flared wheel arches appear familiar, subtle design variations may still be concealed beneath the camouflage. Notably, new ORVMs with integrated turn signals are visible, hinting at embedded cameras and sensors that are part of the broader ADAS ecosystem.

The iconic Mahindra Bolero is set for a significant overhaul, with its next generation, due in 2026, ditching the current ladder-frame setup for an all-new NFA (New Flexible Architecture) platform. Despite this fundamental change in its underpinning, the powertrain will remain familiar. The refreshed SUV will continue to draw power from the reliable mHawk diesel engine, producing 75 PS and 210 Nm of torque, paired with the existing 5-speed manual gearbox with the possibility of a petrol-hybrid powertrain being considered for the SUV lineup as well.

Buyers should anticipate that the models will be accompanied by a higher price tag than the current model and the launch is expected sometime in 2026.

Verdict

The Bolero range has been a definitive identity that helps the Mahindra is tapping a particular market while also helping its image of being a major rugged SUV maker. Now, after a long time duty, this was a long time coming and the SUV duo is ready to embrace this amjor shift. The monocoque chasis will make these vehicles a lot more road freindly than the ladder on frame in terms of the body roll and other more urban centric characteristics.
