BMW F 450 GS Details

The F 450 GS has been a hot topic ever since its concept version was showcased about a year ago. It more or less retains the same tall design, inspired by some of the larger bikes in BMW Motorrad's lineup, the flagship R 1300 GS in particular, which might go well with buyers who've been craving a more accessible ADV from the Bavarian bikemaker.

Talking of what really makes this motorcycle, it gets a new 420cc, twin-cylinder engine, producing 46.9bhp at 8750rpm and 43Nm of torque at 6750rpm, paired to a 6-speed transmission. Despite what many were thinking, it does not get the clutchless transmission as standard. However, it does come with a quickshifter.

The F 450 GS gets on a lattice-tube frame, which hangs off of 43mm golden USD forks and a monoshock, both sourced from KYB, and these get preload and rebound adjustability. BMW Motorrad says the bike also gets 'travel dependent damping derived from rally racing.' Sitting on a 19-inch front and a 17-inch rear wheel setup, the F 450 GS sits on alloy rims as standard. However, BMW Motorrad will also offer cross-spoke alloy rims as part of the accessories, and honestly, these look much better suited to the F 450 GS' design.

The braking hardware comes from Brembo; a 310mm front disc with a four-piston monobloc calliper, and a 240mm rear disc with a single-piston calliper. To further make it suited to various riders, BMW has given it height-adjustable gear lever and brake lever, along with adjustable hand levers, handlebar risers, and two seat options as well.

In terms of features, the F 450 GS comes with a 6.5-inch TFT display with connectivity features, along with dual-channel ABS, dynamic braking pro, a quickshifter, a slipper clutch, three riding modes, emergency braking alert, and heated grips among other things.

Verdict

The F 450 GS is certainly set to come to India; it is more a question of when, and not if. When it does, it will compete against the Royal Enfield Himalayan, KTM 390 Adventure, and the Honda NX500.
