Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 is finally here. Launched for Rs 3.49 lakh, the new cruiser from RE looks promising. It is based on the 648cc platform but gets new features and specs. Hence we take a look over its top 5 highlights below in detail.

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650 - Design

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650

Undoubtedly, the most exciting part of it is its design. As its name suggests, it is pitched as an elder sibling of the Meteor 350. The Meteor brand now refers to the cruisers from RE. Take a look at the bike and it feels like a proper laid-back retro cruiser from every angle. The Super Meteor uses a longer chassis than its siblings like Interceptor 650. Additionally, it has the largest fuel tank ever seen on any RE bike i.e. 15.7 lts. RE has also redesigned the exhaust cans on the Super Meteor. The wide handlebar and front-seat footpegs make up for a proper retro cruiser look.

Features

RE has been conservative in terms of giving features on its products. However, with the Super Meteor, RE has moved one step ahead on this. The speedometer used on it is a semi-digital cluster. It is somewhat similar to the Meteor 350's unit itself. However, it gets MID with an ECO gearshift light as well. Additionally, RE has offered the Tripper Navigation as standard on this bike. Meanwhile, Interceptor & Continental GT 650 still does not get this even as an option. Super Meteor is also the first 650 bike from RE to get alloy wheels. It is equipped with 19-inch front & 16-inch rear multi-spoke alloy wheels. Additionally, it also gets the biggest braking system ever seen on an RE. The front disc brake is a 320mm rotor while the rear disc brake is a 300mm rotor.

Variants

RE Super Meteor 650 Price

RE's new flagship cruiser is available under two sub-names. One is called 'Super Meteor 650 Standard' and the other is 'Tourer'. Meanwhile, the Standard label further gets two variants called Astral & Interstellar. Both of these are based on Solo-touring & hence they get only a single seat. Additionally, the standard label feels more suited for semi-urban use with its design. Meanwhile, the Tourer variant is much more equipped. As its name suggests, it gets touring accessories for making it a better long-haul riding machine. It has a large windscreen, touring mirrors, a touring seat with a pillion backrest, & even different colour options with a contrasting fuel tank.

Engine & Specifications

The main issue with the Super Meteor is its weight. At 241 kg, it is 39 kg heavier than the Interceptor itself. But, RE has used the same 648cc parallel-twin engine on it. However, the ECM has been retuned and so are the gear ratios. This helps in coping with the added weight. Meanwhile, the cruiser comes with USD front suspension which is the first ever on any RE bike. Additionally, it also gets LED lighting all around. Speaking of the numbers, this engine makes 47 bhp of peak power & 52.1 NM of peak torque on the Super Meteor.

Price & Rivals

Royal Enfield Super Meteor 650

At Rs 3.49 lakh (starting), Super Meteor is definitely a premium bike. As per RE standards also, we feel that it is pitched a bit tad higher than the expectations. If you opt for the top-spec Tourer variant, it will cost you Rs 3.79 lakh (ex-showroom) itself. Hence, pricing of it can be considered premium & less affordable. Meanwhile, there are no direct rivals to it except the Keeway V302C.

Verdict: RE Super Meteor is the flagship bike from the brand. It comes with the latest technology & features. Additionally, it is also one of the most refined bikes made by RE until now. However, its pricing can be considered premium.
