The Look

Triumph has kept the cues that define the nameplate. You get a teardrop tank with rubber knee pads, a round LED headlamp, long mudguards, a peashooter-style silencer, and the three-bar badge on the tank. Wire-spoke wheels and twin rear shock absorbers complete the retro look, and select paint schemes get hand-painted coach lines.
The colour options differ by variant:
- T4: Phantom Black, Carnival Red, Competition Green
- T40: Aegean Blue with Fusion White, Meriden Blue with Tangerine Orange, New England White with Jet Black
- T40 Black: Matt Pewter Grey with Matt Phantom Black, plus gloss-black rims and blacked-out engine parts
Engine and Performance
All three bikes share the 349 cc liquid-cooled single-cylinder engine from Triumph's TR Series. For the Bonneville, Triumph gave it a revised cylinder head and a new tune that favours low-rpm pulling power over top-end excitement. Triumph also revised the idle speed and firing pulses so the single sounds more distinctive.
- Power: around 29 PS (28.6 bhp) at 7,000 rpm
- Torque: 31 Nm at 5,500 rpm
- Gearbox: 6-speed with assist-and-slipper clutch
- Throttle: electronic (ride-by-wire)
Chassis and Hardware
A tubular steel frame underpins the bike, with conventional telescopic forks up front and preload-adjustable twin shocks at the back. Wheels are 18-inch at the front and 17-inch at the rear, with aluminium rims and tube-type tyres. The kerb weight is 195 kg, the ground clearance is 165 mm, and the fuel tank holds 14 litres.
Seat height is 790 mm, and an accessory low seat brings it down to 770 mm. A centre stand and engine protection bars come standard on all three bikes.
T40 vs T4: Where the Extra Rs 25,000 Goes
The engine and mechanicals are the same, so the price gap is all about electronics.

Rivals and Our Take
The Bonneville 400 goes after buyers of the Royal Enfield Classic 350, the segment's best seller. It costs noticeably more than the Classic, so Triumph is betting on brand pull and, in the T40, a far richer electronics package.
Triumph's Chief Product Officer, Steve Sargent, said the aim was to build a proper Bonneville in character and ownership experience, not merely a shrunken one. He also pointed to the growing demand for smaller-capacity motorcycles worldwide.
