Triumph Bonneville 400: Spy Shots Reveal Classic Bonneville DNA

The test mule of the Triumph Bonneville 400 clearly showcases a strong connection to the Bonneville family design language. Key elements include a round LED headlamp, a teardrop-shaped fuel tank, and long, pronounced mudguards that give it an unmistakably classic roadster stance. Other details, such as the peashooter-style exhaust and chrome accents, further reinforce its retro appeal. The bike also features a flat, single-piece seat along with a neatly integrated grab rail, staying true to old-school styling cues.

The Bonneville 400 adopts a more traditional mechanical setup compared to its siblings. It uses telescopic front forks with gaiters and twin rear shock absorbers, indicating a shift towards a classic riding experience. This twin-shock layout suggests a revised rear subframe, tailored to suit the motorcycle's retro character. The bike is also expected to come equipped with disc brakes at both ends and ride on wire-spoke wheels, enhancing its period-correct design.

While the overall design leans heavily on heritage styling, the Bonneville 400 is expected to incorporate modern elements. Under the hood, the Triumph Bonneville 400 is expected to use Triumph's new downsized engine platform. This means a 349cc, liquid-cooled, single-cylinder motor, derived from the brand's updated 400 lineup. Depending on tuning, output figures could vary. For context, this engine produces around 36.4 bhp and 32 Nm in models like the Speed 400, while a more relaxed tune (similar to the Speed T4) delivers about 29 hp and 31 Nm. The Bonneville 400 is likely to adopt a milder tune to suit its laid-back, retro riding character, paired with a 6-speed gearbox.

Expected Launch

The new Bonneville 400 is expected to launch in India in the second half of 2026, likely around the festive season. In terms of competition, it will directly rival popular retro motorcycles such as the Royal Enfield Classic 350 and Royal Enfield Bullet 350, targeting buyers looking for a blend of classic styling and modern engineering.
