1. Engine Details: Detuned For More Efficiency

The engine in the Triumph Speed T4 is based on the 399cc TR-series unit from the Speed 400 but has undergone significant modifications to create a distinct riding experience. Although the T4s peak power is reduced from 40hp to 31hp and torque from 37.5Nm to 36Nm, it offers better torque between 3500rpm and 5500rpm compared to the Speed, reflecting Bajajs emphasis on enhancing low RPM performance and a more relaxed ride. Additionally, the rear sprocket has been changed from 43 to 39 teeth to improve rideability further.

2. Humble Hardware Components

Triumph Speed T4

At first glance, the T4 might seem quite similar to the Speed 400, but there are some clear differences. The T4 features a more basic telescopic fork and traditional mirrors instead of the Speed's bar-end ones. Up close, you'll notice the T4 has a simpler front brake caliper, basic gearshift and rear brake levers, and a handlebar that lacks the Speed 400's sandblasted finish. It also comes with less premium bias-ply MRF Zapper tires and non-adjustable levers, while the Speed 400 now includes Vredestein radial tires and adjustable levers following its MY25 update.

3. Similar Feature List But...

Triumph Speed T4

The Speed T4 maintains its classic look with a round LED headlight, curved tank, and streamlined tail. It retains the Bluetooth-enabled analog speedometer with an LCD display for essential metrics like the tachometer, odometer, and trip meter. Despite its retro charm, the T4s reduced power output has led to the omission of traction control, a feature present in the higher-spec models, which helps in keeping the costs down.

4. Most Affordable Triumph In India

Triumph Speed T4

With all the cost-cutting measures undertaken by the brand, it shows in its pricing as well. The all-new Triumph Speed T4 comes at a sticker price of Rs. 2.17 lakhs ex-showroom, which makes it 23,000 rupees more affordable than the 2025 Speed 400, which now retails at Rs. 2.40 lakhs ex-showroom after today's update.

Verdict

The Triumph Speed 400 did quite well for the brand and this even more affordable toned-down variant christened the T4 will only make the road ahead for the Royal Enfield Hunter 350 tougher and tougher. Triumph is moving with a pretty solid strategy for quite some time now and has managed to provide a very well curated alternative to the cheapest Royal Enfield. What do you prefer it comes down to the choice between these two? We would love to hear from you.
