| Review & Win

The Honda City Hybrid is the Hybrid version of the regular Honda City. It comes at a high price over the regular City. But, it offers extremely brilliant fuel efficiency. It is based on the same platform and has great comfort on offer. It has great safety features on offer and comes with a practical cabin and interiors. The neat and clean dashboard layout with sheer elegance takes the cabin experience a step further. It does not have any direct rivals, but it mainly rivals the Toyota Hyryder Hybrid and Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara Hybrid in this category.

The Honda City eHEV is a great family sedan. It offers a premium and fancy cabin experience. It also has extremely efficient fuel economy. It has great driving dynamics and the LEVEL 2 ADAS for the safety front enhances the appeal in the segment. It is an underrated vehicle in the Hybrid segment. But, it is the best to experience rear seat comfort and be chauffeur-driven. Overall it has great characteristics and appeals to both young and older generations.

The Honda City eHEV comes in 2 variants, V and ZX. Both the variants are well equipped with features, but if you are tight on budget and want basic features, then the V variant is the best. If you want ADAS safety and more features then opting for the ZX variant will be the right choice.

Pros & Cons of Honda City Hybrid

  • Features we admire in this car

    • It has a fresh design language with blue accents to illustrate the Hybrid powertrain
    • Great on the comfort level with good space on offer and offers practical storage spaces.
    • It has good features on offer like wireless charging, blind spot camera, ADAS, etc.
    • It has the best-in-segment fuel efficiency of 27.11 km/L due to hybrid powertrain
    • It has plush ride quality with bumps smoothened out in city and highway conditions.
  • Features that could have been better

    • The fit-finish quality of the cabin plastics could have been improved in some parts
    • Boot space is reduced to 306L due to the battery placement.
    • The touchscreen infotainment could have been a better unit.

Should I buy the City Hybrid?

The Honda City Hybrid is a great choice for Hybrid lovers and it is an underrated car in its segment. It offers excellent comfort in the cabin and has brilliant fuel efficiency. The premium interiors, great features, and smooth refined hybrid powertrain make it a good choice for customers. The regular version has no direct rival. But, if you still want other options, look at the Toyota Hyryder Hybrid or Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara in the Hybrid Segment.

Bold And Macho Design With Strong Road Presence 9
  • Talking about the design language of the Hybrid City has quite similarities and differences from the regular version. talking about the differences, it has a blue line accent above the grill and a blue logo to indicate that it is a Hybrid. The headlights have a 9 LED setup which has brilliant illumination at night. The fog lamps are also LED which enhances the illumination.
  • From the side, it is identical to the regular version. It has the same 16” alloy wheels on offer but the design of those could have been changed. The chrome door handles enhance the premium character to a certain extent.
  • Coming at the rear, it has the same design as the taillamps. The LED Taillamps have a simple and elegant design. The differentiating factor is the blue tinge in the HONDA logo which indicates that it is a hybrid.
  • The next differentiating factor is the boot space on offer. Since this is a Hybrid vehicle, its boot space is reduced to 306L from 506 L due to the hybrid battery placement. Even after that, it has enough boot space to store your luggage very easily for your weekend commutes.
Premium Quality Interiors With Great Features On Offer 10
  • As we step inside the cabin of the Honda City Hybrid, it welcomes us with a sense of sophistication and premiumness inside. The touch and feel of materials inside is premium. Some plastics could have been better as per standards.
  • The seats offer leatherette upholstery and offer tremendous comfort. The dual tone for the dashboard removes the claustrophobic feeling. The dashboard layout is identical to the regular version but the Hybrid version comes with an electronic parking brake.
  • Coming to the features front, it offers a bunch of features that are most likely to be utilized in modern times. It offers wireless charging and connectivity for Android Auto and Apple Carplay. It also has automatic climate control, etc. But, it could have offered more features like cooled front seats and driver seat memory. It could have had ambient lights, etc.
Powerful Drivetrain And Extremely Fuel Efficient 10
  • The powertrain in the Honda City Hybrid is a bit different from the regular version. This also gets an IVTEC engine but with a battery and an electric motor for enhanced fuel efficiency.
  • This comes equipped with a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine that churns out 97 BHP and 127 Nm of peak torque from the engine. This is mated to a CVT transmission along with regenerative braking modes to enhance fuel efficiency.
  • Coming to the motor specifications, it comes with a PMSM motor that combined churns out 126 BHP and 253 Nm of torque. This has a claimed fuel efficiency of 27.13 km/L but in real life, it will return more than that and will depend on your driving conditions.
  • The driveability of this Hybrid powertrain is great. It offers punchy hybrid performance. It has a combined output. When driven gently, it has great fuel efficiency.
Superb Seating Comfort And Plush Cabin Experience 10
  • The cabin experience of the City Hybrid is top-class. It has sheer elegance attached to it and offers a luxurious experience.
  • The seats have great cushioning. They offer comfortable seating posture. The cabin is wide enough for 3 passengers at the rear. The rear passengers are pampered by the rear AC vents along with the Type-C charging sockets.
  • The suspension of the Hybrid version is tuned on the softer side. The car has shock absorbers. They adapt to the road well. This gives a comfy ride and a luxury feel in the back seats.
  • The steering wheel is light in use and offers decent levels of feel and feedback. It could have been done with more weight to make it feel a bit more responsive around the bends and corners. It drives well and has a useful blind spot monitor camera. The camera would be better with higher quality.

Honda City Hybrid Competitors

    Honda City Hybrid
    Honda
    City Hybrid
    ₹ 18.89 - ₹ 20.39 Lakh

Toyota Hyryder Hybrid is one of the strong competitors to the City eHEV. Though both are in different segments and do not rival directly, in terms of hybrid powertrain, both offer great fuel efficiency. Hyryder has a 1.5L 3-cylinder petrol engine. It makes 91 BHP and 122 Nm torque. City Hybrid has a 1.5L 4-cylinder petrol engine. It makes 97 BHP and 127 Nm torque. In terms of features, City Hybrid has an upper edge by offering Level 2 ADAS for safety standards. But Hyryder has more features. These include the heads-up display, 360-degree camera, and ventilated seats. These features attract more viewers. So overall they both offer tough competition and are great cars for consideration in the HYBRID segment.

I don't own the Honda City; I'm just sharing my thoughts based on its looks and comfort from sitting in it once. The car has a stylish appearance, and the interior felt comfortable during my brief experience. The seats were nice, and I noticed a touchscreen for entertainment. Although I didn't drive it, I got a good impression of its design and comfort. It seems suitable for city driving, and I imagine parking wouldn't be too challenging. Please keep in mind that this review is based solely on the exterior and interior aesthetics and comfort, as I don't own the car or have extensive driving experience with it.
