Volkswagen has stirred the performance hatch segment, which for some time has been pretty sluggish in its growth and overall sales with the debut of the VW Golf GTI here in India. This is even more interesting considering the fact that the general trend of SUVs is in its full swing, and VW thought to bring this premium hatchback to the Indian soil via the CBU route, which is even more expensive. However, you can gauge the craze from the fact that all 150 units have already been pre-booked, with the launch now taking place on May 26. Jump into all the details about this hot hatch and what price point it is expected to arrive at. Volkswagen Golf GTI Design: Subtle But Bold

The VW Golf GTI has a very understated design theme with sleek LED headlamps and a sculpted front bumper that houses a clustered fog lamp assembly, which is a nice touch. The Volkswagen Golf GTI strikes a bold first impression with its illuminated VW logo seamlessly integrated between sleek LED headlights, setting the tone for its dynamic persona. A red GTI badge on the front doors, paired with a matching red strip that connects the headlamps and adorns the brake calipers, adds a signature touch of flair. Sitting confidently on 18-inch alloy wheels, the GTI's rear design is equally commanding, with smoked LED tail-lights, a sharp roof spoiler, and dual exhaust tips completing the performance-driven aesthetic. Buyers can choose from four shades, Grenadilla Black, Oryx White, Moonstone Grey Black, and the vibrant Kings Red.

While Volkswagen Golf GTI is gearing up for its deliveries in June through select dealerships, the GTI also brings a generous dose of premium features along with the performance. The cabin is tech-rich, featuring a 32.8 cm touchscreen infotainment system, a 26.04 cm digital instrument cluster, wireless charging, and a 7-speaker audio setup. Smartphone integration is seamless with both wired and wireless options. Other highlights include a panoramic sunroof, three-zone climate control, and 30-colour ambient lighting for a more personalised cabin vibe. On the safety front, it comes equipped with seven airbags, ADAS, Park Distance Control, and a rear-view camera. With the XDS electronic differential lock enhancing cornering grip and stability, along with a lot more.

Powertrain

Powering the upcoming Golf GTI is a 2.0-litre turbocharged four-cylinder petrol engine that delivers 265 hp and 370 Nm of torque. Paired with a 7-speed dual-clutch automatic gearbox, the setup sends all power to the front wheels. Volkswagen claims the hot hatch can sprint from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5.9 seconds, with its top speed electronically capped at 250 kmph.
As for its pricing, with its CBU form of arrival, it will land somewhere around the Rs. 55 lakhs mark, which will be revealed on May 26, making it an expensive affair and aimed at true blue enthusiasts.
Verdict
The Golf GTI is not your regular hatch and VW has no plans on playing in the Polo league for now. It has guaged publc interest and is looking for small volumes but big money play. However, the CBU model adds a hefty tax bracket which makes up for a major chunk of the total pricing. With the Tiguan R-Line being a similar attempt, you can expect even more such launches from the brand.
