Tata Harrier EV- Design

The Tata Harrier EV carries forward the solid, muscular build from the ICE model but with some EV-centric tweaks, all the while maintaining its unmistakable Harrier character. Yoy now get a closed-off front grille along with aero cut alloy wheels for reduced air drag. The side profile, apart from this, retains the familiar body lines as well. The bumpers also offer a distinct look to complete the overall look and adding to the visual disconnect from the standard model currently on sale. In short, while the Harrier is a sharp and solidly built vehicle with looks to back it up, the Harrier EV just takes it a notch up.

A key highlight of the upcoming Harrier EV lies in its advanced powertrain. Unlike the standard diesel-powered Harrier, which drives the front wheels, the electric version is expected to feature a dual-motor, all-wheel-drive setup. This upgrade improves grip and stability across varied road conditions and brings a notable increase in torque, potentially up to 500 Nm, a considerable jump from the diesel variant's 350 Nm. While the EV isn't an entirely new model from the ground up, it's built on a heavily reworked version of the existing Omega architecture. Tata has adapted this platform extensively for electric mobility, incorporating structural changes like a revised chassis, a new floor to accommodate the battery pack, and a fresh electrical and electronics system, collectively branded under Tata's Acti.ev (Gen 2) platform.

Features: More Than Its ICE Siblings

Tata offered a sneak peek of the Harrier EV's interior back in March, revealing a cabin layout that closely mirrors the current ICE version. Signature elements such as the dual-tone dashboard, floating infotainment screen, digital driver's display, and touch-sensitive climate controls have been retained. The familiar four-spoke steering wheel, terrain mode selector dial, and controls for the electronic parking brake and panoramic sunroof also remain in place. That said, the EV version is set to introduce some notable additions like new terrain modes, V2L feature, upgraded connected car features, and a few EV-focused features, conforming with modern EV expectations.

Battery And Range

Tata Motors has yet to officially disclose the technical specifications of the Harrier EV's powertrain, including details about its motors and battery packs. However, what is confirmed is that the EV will feature a dual-motor setup with an all-wheel-drive system. The Harrier EV is expected to offer a range of up to 500 km on a single charge. Based on current expectations, the model could be offered with two battery options: a smaller 60 kWh pack paired with a two-wheel-drive configuration, and a larger 75 kWh pack supporting the all-wheel-drive variant.

For its pricing, it will be priced somewhere around Rs. 25 lakhs to Rs. 30 lakhs ex-showroom. It will rival the like of Hyundai Creta EV, MG Windsor EV, MG ZS EV, Tata Curvv EV, and others.

Verdict

Finally, the Tata Harrier gets a speciific date for its official launch, making the speculations take a rest for good. Tata has been a major player in the electric vehicle segment in India, but the MG Windsor EV has dented its position big time with its big footprint at a more affordable upfront cost with the BaaS rental plans. In reality, this is going to be the biggest rival that Harrier EV faces, something that Tata needs to focus on with pricing and the overall package that it offers. With buyers ready to forego looks for practicality, it sure looks like an intersting battle when it comes to life.
