Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara
Maruti’s mid-size offering is the Grand Vitara. Although it is placed in a segment with half a dozen rivals, the Grand Vitara is popular thanks to low pricing, CNG & Strong Hybrid engine options. The Grand Vitara also has optional AWD and offers a no-nonsense driving experience. Light controls, good visibility, high efficiency are some of the strong points of this vehicle. That said, it may not be the safest option in the Rs 11-18 lakh bracket regarding crash test results. The SUV might get a mild facelift in 2025.

Should I buy the Grand Vitara?
If you put family comfort at the top of your car-buying checklist, the Maruti Suzuki Grand Vitara is a reliable choice. It's packed with features and has a fuel-efficient engine, too. It ensures a smooth and comfortable ride for you and your loved ones. For a more engaging and powerful performance, choose cars such as the Skoda Kushaq or the KIA Seltos. They offer a more premium cabin and powerful driving experience.
- The Grand Vitara brings a new design language to the Maruti lineup with Nexa’s signature touch. This brand-new SUV introduces a unique design that stands out in the mid-size SUV segment. It has a well-proportioned build that sits high above the ground.
- At the front, it commands attention with sharp DRLs (daytime running lights). It also has a bold, sizable grille. This sets the tone for a modern and stylish appearance. The DRLs serve as daytime running lights. They also function as indicators, adding a cool and contemporary touch.
- The rear of the Grand Vitara continues the modern theme. Fantastic LED taillights are connected by a sleek light bar. The light bar spans the width of the vehicle. The sides of the rear bumper incorporate a vertical light panel. It houses indicators and reverse parking lights. Completing the exterior features are a roof-end spoiler and a shark fin antenna. They are standard across all variants.
- The side profile reveals a flat shoulder line and a gently sloping roof. These features contribute to the SUV's overall aesthetic appeal. The Grand Vitara rides on 17-inch wheels. Alloys are reserved for higher versions. This strikes a balance between style and performance.
Grand Vitara body specifications:
| Wheel Size | R17 |
| Seating Capacity | 5 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 210 mm |
| Boot Space | 373 liters |

- The interior of the Grand Vitara is meticulously designed. It exudes a premium feel right from the outset. Up front, there's generous space for tall adults. There's ample headroom and shoulder space. The Grand Vitara currently lacks powered seats. However, the expansive sunroof contributes to an airy ambiance within the cabin.
- For those considering the Grand Vitara for family use, the rear bench has plenty of space. The front and rear seats are designed for comfort, a notable advantage.
- The SUV's boot space varies depending on the chosen engine. The regular Smart Hybrid model offers 373 liters of boot space. This is a decent offering for its segment. However, the Strong Hybrid, featuring a battery pack, sees a reduction in boot space to 265 liters. This could be a consideration for family-oriented buyers who prioritize cargo space. It emphasizes the importance of choosing the right engine variant for individual needs.
- The top variant has many features. It has six airbags, a panoramic sunroof, a digital console, cooled seats, a head-up display (HUD), a 360-degree view camera, and paddle shifters for the smart hybrid automatic transmission. The AWD model has selectable modes. These include Auto, Sport, Snow, and Lock. They adapt to different conditions. The driver's seat lacks power adjustment.
- Grand Vitara, in its 2025 MY update, has received 5 new features, which increase its premium quotient to the next level. These are: 8-way Driver Powered Seat, Electronic Parking Brake, Auto Purify with PM 2.5 Display, LED Cabin Lamps, and Rear Door Sunshades. It’s important to note that the Electronic Parking Brake is only available with automatic transmissions, not with manual.
- Also, Maruti has listened to the masses and made 6 airbags standard on all of its 18 variants. Along with this, they have also made Electronic Stability Program (ESP) with Hill Hold Assist, Front and Rear Disc Brakes with Anti-lock Braking System (ABS) and Electronic Brakeforce Distribution (EBD), 3-point ELR seat belts (all seats), and ISOFIX child seat restraint system standard across the lineup.

Maruti provides a selection of three powertrains for the Grand Vitara. The first option features the familiar 1.5-liter engine petrol engine. This naturally aspirated engine generates 103 PS of power and 136.8 Nm of torque. It comes with the choice of a 5-speed manual gearbox or a 6-speed automatic transmission. This engine excels in fuel efficiency and smooth operation. But, it may lack outright acceleration.
-
The second powertrain is a robust hybrid setup, allowing for electric-only driving. It combines a conventional engine with an electric motor. It also has a substantial battery pack. In EV-only mode, the engine remains off, providing significant fuel savings. This strong hybrid configuration is exclusive to the automatic gearbox. It boasts a claimed economy of 27.97 kmpl.
-
At last, it also comes with a 1.5-liter CNG powertrain, sharing the same engine, producing 87.8 bhp and 121.5 Nm of torque. In petrol mode, these figures increase to 100.6 bhp and 136 Nm of torque.
-
With 2025MY, now customers can choose the AllGrip Select with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Earlier, it was only available with a 5-speed manual gearbox with the Alpha trim, but now customers have the option to choose automatic convenience with 4WD capabilities. Moreover, this AllGrip 4WD system is only available with the 1.5L engine making 103 ps and 139 Nm of torque.
- Maruti Grand Vitara delivers a well-balanced combination of ride comfort and handling. When driven with just a single occupant, the ride tends to feel slightly firmer. However, it never feels excessively firm. However, with a fuller complement of passengers, the ride becomes perfectly comfortable.
- SUV adeptly navigates uneven surfaces. Even with a full load, the rear suspension remains resilient without bottoming out. The ground clearance is commendable, especially in the AWD model. It contributes to its off-road capabilities.
- The Grand Vitara is classified as an SUV. However, it is easily manageable and maneuverable in urban settings. The driver enjoys a pleasant view from the seat. The steering requires minimal effort, providing light controls. This makes it well-suited for city driving.
