Maruti Victoris Is The New Moniker For The New SUV

Maruti Suzuki's upcoming SUV has had its name revealed prematurely. Internally codenamed Y17, the model will be called Maruti Victoris, with the leak surfacing briefly on the company's own website through Google search results. The official debut is scheduled for September 3, 2025, making Victoris one of Maruti's most important launches of the year. The Victoris will occupy the space between the Maruti Brezza and the Grand Vitara, serving as a fresh challenger in the highly competitive compact SUV segment.

Unlike the Grand Vitara, which is retailed through Nexa, the Victoris will be sold via Maruti's Arena network, giving it access to over 3,000 dealerships across India. Dimensionally, Victoris is tipped to be slightly longer than the Grand Vitara's 4,345 mm, putting it right in the mix against the Hyundai Creta (4,330 mm) and Kia Seltos (4,365 mm). This added length should translate into more boot space and better practicality, especially for family buyers.
Interior & Features

Inside, the Maruti Victoris is expected to come with a fresh dashboard design and a larger floating touchscreen with wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. Premium features could include a panoramic sunroof, ventilated front seats, and an Arkamys-tuned sound system. A fully digital driver's display will likely be offered as well. On the safety front, six airbags, ESC, 360-degree camera, and ADAS Level 2 features like lane keep assist and autonomous emergency braking are likely to be offered on higher trims.
Powertrain Options

The Maruti Victoris will borrow its engines from the Grand Vitara, giving buyers multiple options. It will be offered with a 1.5-litre mild-hybrid petrol engine producing 103 PS and 137 Nm, paired with either a 5-speed manual or a 6-speed automatic gearbox, with the AllGrip AWD system likely reserved for higher trims. A 1.5-litre strong-hybrid petrol unit will also be available, delivering a combined 116 PS with an e-CVT, while a 1.5-litre petrol-CNG variant will produce 88 PS and come with a 5-speed manual. With petrol, hybrid, and CNG choices, the Victoris is set to be one of the most versatile SUVs in its segment.

Expected Price & Launch
The Maruti Victoris is expected to be priced from around Rs. 9.5 lakh (ex-showroom), undercutting some rivals while still offering premium features. Sales will begin shortly after the launch on September 3, 2025, with a Toyota-badged sibling also in the pipeline. Rivals will include the Kia Seltos , Skoda Kushaq, Volkswagen Taigun, and others.
Verdict
With the Victoris, Maruti Suzuki is looking to plug the gap between the Brezza and Grand Vitara while taking the fight straight to the Creta and Seltos. A blend of Arena's wider reach, multiple powertrain options, strong feature list, and competitive pricing could make Victoris a blockbuster for Maruti in a segment where it has lacked a true volume driver. If executed well, this SUV may finally give Hyundai and Kia their toughest fight yet.
