Should I buy the Punch?
If you're entering the car market for the first time or need a compact city-friendly SUV, the 2026 Tata Punch makes a strong case with its safety credentials, tall stance, and spacious cabin. It's easy to live with thanks to its comfortable ride, rough-road-friendly suspension, and the added flexibility of turbo-petrol and CNG-AMT powertrain options. That said, the naturally aspirated engine can feel strained on highways, while the AMT isn't the smoothest in traffic. Higher variants also overlap with larger SUVs like the Nexon, making the Punch best suited to buyer looking for practicality over outright space.
- From the outside, the Tata Punch Facelift looks more confident and mature than before. It retains its upright SUV stance but now feels bolder, thanks to sharper sculpted surfaces and a rugged 3D front grille that gives it a strong road presence.
- The updated LED lighting elements add a modern touch while making the front end look more distinctive, especially at night.
- At the rear, the high-set proportions, new spoiler, and freshly designed 16-inch diamond cut alloy wheels enhance its sporty and dynamic appeal, making the Punch look tougher and more commanding overall.
- The connected LED DRLs at rear plus the newly designed tail-lights give it a muscular look from rear, and if you glance at it for a few seconds, you’ll see a resemblance with Safari. Plus the bumper is all new - finished in dual-tone with a braking light in the center.
- Available in multiple colour options including Caramel and Cyanartic (exclusive), Bengal Rouge, Coorg Clouds, Pristine White, and Daytona Grey.
Lastly, the overall structure of Tata Punch is perfectly safe, and it has received a perfect 5-star safety rating at Bharat NCAP.
Punch body specifications:
| Wheel Size | R15 & R16 |
| Seating Capacity | 5 seaters |
| Ground Clearance | 193 mm |
| Boot Space | 366 liters |

- The all-new Tata Punch is available with three powertrain options: a 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol, a 1.2L iCNG, and a new 1.2L turbo-petrol engine. Focusing on the new turbo unit, it produces 120 PS and 170 Nm of torque and is paired exclusively with a 6-speed gearbox. With the best figures in its segment, this engine is expected to take the Punch’s performance to a new level.
- The other engine options remain unchanged. The 1.2L naturally aspirated petrol produces 87.8 PS and 115 Nm of torque, paired with either a 5-speed manual or an AMT gearbox. The second, and more popular option, is the iCNG variant with the same setup, now using dual CNG tanks and delivering a claimed mileage of 26-27 km/kg. Notably, for the first time, Tata has paired an AMT gearbox with this powertrain, making it India’s first SUV to offer a CNG-AMT combination. How this setup performs in real-world conditions will be interesting to see, as Tata has also given paddle-shifters with this combination.
- Tata has retained the overall dashboard design but added several new features to make the interior feel richer. It now gets a new 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen with wireless connectivity.
- The air vents are the same as those seen on the Punch EV, and there is also a new two-spoke digital steering wheel, now common across Tata’s lineup.
- Talking about the new features, it now offers blind-spot monitoring displayed on the infotainment screen, an air purifier, rain-sensing wipers, a 360-degree parking camera, hill-descent control, drive modes, and six airbags as standard, including pelvis and thorax side airbags. It also gets seats with extended thigh support.
