Should I buy the Verna?
If you're in search of a mid-size sedan, the new Verna is a worthy option. It combines stylish design with a boatload of features, standing out as one of the most powerful sedans in its segment, particularly with the turbo engine. Safety is assured with its 5-star crash test rating, and it excels in features, including some segment-first offerings. Additionally, it boasts best-in-segment dimensions. However, if you prioritize an elegant design and a more fuel-efficient engine, the Honda City is a good alternative.
- The Verna's exterior has undergone a significant transformation compared to its previous generation, embracing the brand's 'Sensuous Sportiness' Global Design Identity for a more contemporary appearance. The sedan's front end exudes a muscular presence with redesigned headlights, a bumper, and a parametric grille. A striking LED light bar extends over the front grille, while the bonnet features four distinct lines, enhancing its visual appeal.
- In the side profile, the Verna maintains the parametric design language with sharp lines, complemented by 16-inch diamond-cut alloy wheels and subtle motifs on the C-pillar.
- At the rear, the car presents a bolder and more robust look with a connected tail lamp and horizontal tail lights on both ends. Halogen turn indicators are present both at the front and back.
- The 2023 Verna sedan boasts dimensions of 4,535 mm in length, 1,765 mm in width, and 1,475 mm in height. Notably, it features the best-in-segment wheelbase at 2,670 mm and the widest segment width at 1,765 mm. Furthermore, the Verna's spacious boot has a capacity of 528 liters, making it the largest in its segment.
- The Verna's interior receives a significant update with a new dashboard layout, redesigned seats, screens, and center console. The 2023 Hyundai Verna is equipped with several segment-first and segment-best advanced safety features. Standard safety includes 6 airbags, and from the second base variant onwards, it introduces active safety technologies such as Electronic Stability Program, Hill Hold, Highline Tire Pressure Monitoring System, and Traction Control.
- Level-2 ADAS (Advanced Driver Assistance System): The top-end variant of the Verna features Level-2 ADAS, offering a comprehensive suite of safety features. This includes Forward Collision Warning, Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Blind-spot Collision Warning, Blind-spot Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, Lane Departure Warning, Driver Attention Warning, Safe Exit Warning, Smart Cruise Control With Stop & Go, Lane Following Assist, High Beam Assist, Leading Vehicle Departure Alert, Rear Cross-Traffic Collision Warning, and Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist
- The 2023 Hyundai Verna introduces first-in-segment and best-in-segment comfort and convenience features. Notable additions include heated and ventilated front seats, a BOSE 8-speaker sound system, front parking sensors, electric parking brake with auto hold (Turbo Only), paddle shifters (Turbo DCT only), a 10.25-inch HD infotainment touchscreen system with audio-video navigation, digital cluster with color TFT MID, Hyundai Bluelink (connected car technology) with smartwatch integration, Alexa + Google Assistant Home to car (H2C) support, power-adjustable driver seat, Integrated air purifier, Smart electric sunroof, Tilt & Telescopic steering, and more.

- Hyundai gives you two engine choices and three ways the car can shift gears in the new 2023 Verna. First, there's a 1.5-liter regular engine that works with either a 6-speed stick shift or an automatic that can vary the speed (IVT/CVT). The second option is a fancier 1.5-liter turbo engine that you can pair with a 6-speed stick shift or a 7-speed automatic (DCT). The regular engine makes 115 PS and 143.8 Nm torque, while the turbo engine is more powerful, making 160 PS and 253 Nm of torque.
- The turbocharged engine variant provides three drive modes: ECO, NORMAL, and SPORTS. In ECO mode, the engine may exhibit a slight sluggishness, demanding a firmer press on the pedal for acceleration. Conversely, NORMAL mode delivers a well-balanced throttle response and suitable revs from the engine, contributing to improved mileage during highway drives.
Verna engine specifications:
| Transmission | Manual, Automatic (iVT), Automatic & Automatic (DCT) |
| Mileage | 20.6 |
| Engine | 1482-1497 cc |
| Power | 157.81 bhp @ 5500 rpm |
| Torque | 253 Nm @ 1500-3500 rpm |
| Drive Train | FWD |
- Compared to its earlier models, the 2023 Verna shows noticeable improvements in how it rides. The suspension has been adjusted to provide a more comfortable experience for both the driver and passengers. It does a good job absorbing most bumps and uneven road surfaces at lower speeds, resulting in a smoother ride. However, at higher speeds, the car can feel a bit bouncy when going over joints on flyovers, which may disappoint those looking for a consistently smooth ride.
- In terms of handling, it's important to mention that the steering feels very light and lacks a sense of confidence at higher speeds. Nevertheless, this light steering is beneficial for maneuvering through city traffic and parking. Although the drive modes do add a bit of weight to the steering, the impact is so minimal that it might not be easily noticed.

| ADAS | Yes |
