2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6 First Look Review - The Best All-Rounder 200cc Bike?

The 200cc (naked) bike segment of India is growing rapidly and successfully. We have a lot of players competing with each other in this segment. This motorcycle segment is itself categorised into two different class: one which consists of affordable 200cc' while the other includes expensive 200cc'. The expensive ones are the KTMs while the affordable ones include the likes of the Naked Sport Pulsar from Bajaj, some Hero MotoCorp bikes and the Apache from TVS. The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is one of the most well-balanced bikes in its category. Recently, the motorcycle got a BS6 update along with the inclusion of some new features. So, today we have for you the First Look Review of the new 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6: Overview

The TVS Apache RTR 200 4V was first launched in India in January 2016. Although it was a bit underpowered compared to its rivals, thanks to its superb hardware and features, it became an instant hit. Ever since it was launched, TVS has been updating it from time to time to make it look fresh. In 2017, the motorcycle got an optional dual-channel ABS and fuel-injection technology. In March 2018, TVS introduced the Race Edition 2.0 which got new graphics and a slipper-clutch. And now, the motorcycle has finally got a BS6 update with some more new features.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6: Looks, Dimensions and Colour Options

The Apache 200 4V looks splendidly awesome. The motorcycle looks very striking and has a sharp design language. Upfront, it gets a new all-LED headlamp with new twin LED DRLs. The motorcycle features a sharp and aerodynamic side profile. It gets new tank extensions and also an engine cowl. The motorcycle also features new attractive body decals, just like the earlier introduced Race Edition model, but now as standard. It gets a split seat set-up and at the rear, it gets a LED taillamp. The motorcycle gets golden-coloured front forks and a dual-tip exhaust, which further enhance its sporty appeal.

Talking about dimensions, the Apache 200 4V measures 2050 mm in length, 790 mm in width and 1050 mm in height. It has a wheelbase of 1353 mm and the saddle height (seat-height) stands at 800 mm. It is very comfortable for both short as well as tall riders. The motorcycle weighs around 153 kilograms (with oil, tool kit and 90 per cent fuel) and has a fuel tank capacity of 12-litres. Also, it has a minimum ground clearance of 180 mm, which is very impressive and can tackle all types of roads at ease. The new Apache RTR 200 4V BS6 is available in two colour variants - Gloss Black and Pearl White.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6: Engine, Transmission and Mileage

The new 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V is powered by a new BS6-compliant 197.75cc, single-cylinder, oil-cooled engine. This motor churns out 20.5 PS of power at 8500 RPM and 16.8 Nm of torque at 7500 RPM. The engine comes coupled to a 5-speed manual gearbox. It gets TVS' Race-tuned (RT-FI) fuel-injection technology for enhanced power delivery and fuel economy. Moreover, it also gets GTT or Glide Through Technology feature for low-speed urban riding that offers an extremely smooth and controlled riding experience.

It is because of this GTT feature that the Apache 200 can run up to 7 kmph without throttle in the first gear itself. In second gear, it can achieve a maximum speed of 12 kmph and in the third gear, it can run up to 17 kmph (without throttle). Thus it is a very useful feature in stop-go traffic as you can crawl at low speeds without throttle, just by letting go of the clutch. The Apache 200 4V delivers a good mileage of around 40-45 kmpl in real-world conditions.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6: Tyres, Brakes and Features

The Apache 200 RV is based on a Double Cradle Split Synchro Stiff Frame. The motorcycle gets telescopic forks at the front and a mono-shock absorber at the rear. It runs on 17-inch tubeless tyres. The front tyre measures 90/90-17 while the rear one is a 130/70 section 17-inch unit. Also, it is worth mentioning that the rear tyre of the Apache 200 is a radial unit which offers superb grip and aids in handling characteristics of the bike. The motorcycle gets petal disc brakes at both the ends. At the front, it gets a 270 mm disc while at the rear one is a 240 mm unit. It also gets dual-channel ABS as standard as an additional safety aid.

The BS6 model of the Apache 200 4V gets a new all-digital instrument cluster. It looks the same as before but now gets a dot-matrix screen and shows more information too. It displays digital speedometer, odometer, twin trip meters, fuel gauge, clock, gear-position indicator, etc. Moreover, it also gets the TVS' Smart Xonnect system that enables smartphone connectivity via Bluetooth and features turn-by-turn navigation, shows the race telemetry and many more. It also gets a dedicated 'i' button on the switchgear that is used to toggle through the information on the screen. It sports an assist & slipper clutch, which is a very useful safety feature.

TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6: Price, Rivals and Verdict

The new 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6 is available in a single variant. It is priced at Rs. 1,27,500, Ex-showroom Delhi. It rivals the other 200cc naked bikes which include the Bajaj Pulsar NS 200, Hero Xpulse 200T, KTM Duke 200 etc. Talking about the verdict, so if you want an all-rounder 200c motorcycle that offers punchy performance, best-in-class features, great hardware and is affordable too, then you should definitely consider buying the 2020 TVS Apache RTR 200 4V BS6.
