All New BMW 7 Series Launched At Rs 1.95 Cr

BMW India has launched today, the facelifted model of their flagship - BMW 7 Series, starting at Rs 1.95 Cr (ex-showroom), and the German company has updated both the iterations of this luxury saloon, ICE and EV. From exterior to interior as well as the powertrain, all have recieved a upgrade, and now the 7-Series feels like coming straight out of a gym, with those captivating front features. Let's learn more about this flagship sedan, which is the direct rival of Mercedes-Benz S-Class.

New BMW 7 Series - Exterior

Let's begin with how this car looks, since with the 7 Series, design matters more than almost anything else. The front fascia looks noticeably more aggressive, with a redesigned kidney grille that now runs horizontal slats instead of the vertical ones seen before. The LED DRLs have been slimmed down further, and the headlamps sit in a new position, giving the whole face a far more distinct presence on the road. The bumper is also new, with wider air intakes that add to the aggressive stance.

The side profile gets new skirts and a fresh set of 20-inch alloy wheels, which suit the car's proportions well. At the rear, the change is even more noticeable. New tail lamps, wider than before and shaped to echo butterfly wings, give the car a stronger road presence from behind. The rear bumper has been redesigned too, now featuring an integrated diffuser.

New BMW 7 Series - Interior

The interior of the new BMW 7 Series is built around the BMW Panoramic iDrive system, which uses BMW Panoramic Vision to project information across the full width of the windscreen. This works alongside a 17.9-inch central display, positioned in a free-standing design, and a 3D head-up display for the driver. Front passengers get a dedicated 14.6-inch touchscreen, the first time BMW has offered a separate passenger display in production. It allows access to media and functions without needing a driver profile, and it switches off automatically if the car's interior camera detects the driver looking at it.

At the rear, the standout feature is a 31.3-inch, 8K resolution Theatre Screen that extends down from the roofliner on command. Sound comes from a Bowers & Wilkins Diamond Surround system running Dolby Atmos. Rear seats fall under BMW's Executive Lounge configuration, with adjustable backrest angle, seat position and cushion tilt allowing recline up to 43 degrees.

The doors use radar-based sensors for automatic opening and closing with a soft-close function, a first for any production car, replacing the ultrasonic sensors used on earlier models. Other equipment includes a panoramic Sky Lounge sunroof with over 40 LED points for interior illumination, BMW Individual Merino leather upholstery, glass detailing on the start-stop button, gear selector and volume control, and a wireless charging tray rated at up to 15 watts.

New BMW 7 Series - Powertrain

The new BMW 740, the ICE version, uses a three-litre, six-cylinder petrol engine built on BMW's TwinPower Turbo platform. It produces 400hp and 540Nm of torque, and BMW quotes a 0-100kph time of 5.4 seconds with a top speed of 250kmph.

On the electric side, the BMW i7 eDrive50 xDrive uses a 112.5kWh battery and produces a combined 455hp and 660Nm of torque from its electric motors. It covers 0-100kph in 5.5 seconds, with a top speed limited to 210kph. WLTP range stands at 728km, an increase of 125km over the outgoing model, and BMW says this makes it the best in its class for range.

The BMW i7 M70 xDrive sits at the top of the electric line-up. It uses two electric motors that together produce 680hp, with 1015Nm of torque available in Sport mode. This rises to 1100Nm when Launch Control or the Sport Boost function is engaged. The M70 does 0-100kph in 3.8 seconds and has the same 250kph top speed as the petrol 740. Range on the WLTP cycle comes in at 686km, lower than the i7 eDrive50 given the extra performance on offer.

On charging, BMW quotes a 10 to 80 percent charge time of 28 minutes on a 250kW DC fast charger, with 235km of range added in just 10 minutes. On a 22kW AC charger, a full charge from empty takes around six hours. Both electric variants come with a complimentary BMW Wallbox charger, including installation, for home charging up to 22kW.

Price of the New BMW 7 Series

Talking about pricing, the 2026 BMW 7 Series starts at Rs 1.95 crore for the 740 M Sport, which is the sole petrol variant on offer. On the electric side, the i7 eDrive50 xDrive M Sport is priced identically at Rs 1.95 crore, while the range-topping i7 M70 xDrive commands Rs 2.65 crore. A major highlight of this launch is that the i7 will now be manufactured in India, making it the only country after Germany to produce the model.
