BMW F 450 GS: New-Age Adventure Machine From BMW

bmw f 450 gs

The BMW F 450 GS, which made its global premiere at EICMA 2025, marks a new chapter for BMW's adventure lineup. At its heart lies an all-new 420 cc liquid-cooled parallel-twin engine, producing 47.6 PS of peak power and 43 Nm of torque. The motor is mated to a 6-speed gearbox, and higher variants will benefit from BMW's innovative Easy Ride Clutch (ERC) system, an assist feature that automatically modulates clutch engagement to prevent stalling at low speeds.

Weighing just 178 kg (kerb), the F 450 GS is among the lightest bikes in its segment, making it nearly 18 kg lighter than its closest rival, the Royal Enfield Himalayan 450. This weight advantage, combined with BMW's advanced chassis engineering, promises nimble handling both on tarmac and off-road terrain.

Design & Equipment: Compact Yet Distinctly GS

In terms of styling, the F 450 GS carries the signature GS family design language, tall stance, muscular bodywork, and a purposeful beak-style front end. The headlamp cluster features a sharp, asymmetric design reminiscent of larger GS models, while the overall silhouette hints at influences from the R 1300 GS. The adventure bike uses a lattice-tube frame suspended on 43 mm KYB USD forks and a monoshock, both offering preload and rebound adjustability. It also comes equipped with rally-derived travel-dependent dampings, while braking duties are handled by Brembo hardware, a 310 mm front disc with a four-piston caliper and a 240 mm rear disc. The bike rolls on 19-inch front and 17-inch rear alloy wheels as standard, with cross-spoke rims available as accessories for serious adventure riders.

In terms of features, the BMW F 450 GS comes equipped with a 6.5-inch full-colour TFT display supporting smartphone connectivity. Riders also get dual-channel ABS, Dynamic Braking Pro, a quickshifter, slipper clutch, three riding modes, emergency braking alert, and heated grips for all-weather comfort. To enhance ergonomics, BMW offers adjustable levers, handlebar risers, and multiple seat height options, making it suitable for riders of different statures.

Expected Pricing & Rivals

While BMW hasn't disclosed official prices, the F 450 GS is expected to be positioned around Rs 5 lakh (ex-showroom). This will locsk horns with the likes of KTM 390 Adventure, Royal Enfield Himalayan 450, Honda NX 500, Benelli TRK 502, and others

Verdict

The arrival of the BMW F 450 GS signifies an exciting evolution in India's adventure motorcycling scene. It combines authentic GS pedigree, premium European engineering, and everyday usability into a compact package that should appeal to both experienced riders and those stepping up from smaller ADVs. With unofficial bookings now open and an official launch expected soon, the F 450 GS could very well set a benchmark for sub-500 cc adventure tourers in 2026.
