Mumbai Police arrested famous car designer Dilip Chhabria on Monday. The Crime Intelligence Branch (CIU) of Mumbai Police seized a DC Avanti that belong to the car designer and registered a case under several sections of Indian Penal Code. Know more details in the article that follows.

Before we move further, do note that the Joint Commissioner of Police (Crime) has already confirmed the arrest. A case of cheating and forgery has been registered against Dilip Chhabria. While the exact details of the case remain unknown, as per reports, several complaints were registered against Chhabria including one by a Bollywood celeb on the 19th December. CIU investigated the complaint and Dilip Chhabria was arrested from his home. They also seized the DC Avanti registered in his name from his house.

The exact details of his alleged crime are not known yet. However, the police have booked a case against him under various Sections of IPC. It includes Sections 420, 465, 467, 468, 471, 120(B) and 34 of IPC. More people have been arrested to the connection of the same case but the details and names of these people have not been announced yet. Several online reports suggest that CIU busted a huge racket of duplicate car registrations involving DC as well.

Dilip Chhabria and his son Bonito are avid car enthusiasts. Their garage includes several luxury and high-end vehicles. The father-son duo was a regular visitor at Budh International Circuit to participate in track days and various other speed runs. The duo owns cars like Aston Martin Vanquish, Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG, Audi R8 Spyder, Porsche 911 Turbo S and more. Popular former cricketer - Yuvraj Singh also bought their BMW X6M.

DC Design Aston Martin

Dilip Chhabria and DC Design became popular after signing a contract with Aston Martin years ago. DC Design became the first Indian design house to get a contract to design a prototype vehicle for Aston Martin. The working prototype was revealed in 2005.

Back in India, DC Design, which is currently known as DC2 has worked on several models. DC Design became popular for its lounge transformations based on cars like Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra XUV500 and more such vehicles.

In fact, DC Design and Mahindra joined hands for the conversion of the Marazzo. The lounge-inspired cabin of Mahindra Marazzo was made available at the Mahindra dealerships across India.

DC2, which is the current name of the company is also planning to launch electric cars in the Indian market. They became the first brand to launch a sports car that is made in India.
