Apart from the new car market, the used car market also depends a lot on the brand of the car being sold. In the Indian market, different brands have faced different fates. The older brands such as Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Mahindra and Toyota have created a good stature for themselves, owing to their better reach in all the corners of the country with their sales and service touchpoints and competitive maintenance costs. This does create a kind of trust and peace of mind among the buyers, especially those of the used car market, owing to the fact that maintaining the cars of these brands will be an easy affair, due to which they usually fetch good resale values.

However, there are some car manufacturers which do lack behind the aforementioned brands in terms of sales and service touchpoints, such as Volkswagen, Skoda, Renault and Nissan, the cars of which are relatively more difficult to maintain, due to unavailability and higher cost of spare parts at times. This does take a toll on their resale value, which deteriorates faster than that of the cars from established brands.

However, there are some cars from the established brands also, which are not too popular in the used car market owing to their below-average sales in their life cycle, such as Maruti Suzuki Kizashi, Hyundai Getz, Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Yaris. Due to lower sales of such cars and scares the availability of their spare parts, they foresee a low demand in the used car market as well.
