Harley Davidson X440 Retains Price Tag

The Harley Davidson X440 is available in three trims, Denim, Vivid, and S, priced between Rs. 2.40 lakh and Rs. 2.80 lakh (ex-showroom). The bike is powered by a 440cc, air-oil-cooled single-cylinder engine that produces 27 bhp and 38 Nm of torque, paired with a 6-speed gearbox and slipper clutch. This setup puts it in direct competition with Royal Enfield's 440cc line-up, which has recently seen price hikes due to GST adjustments.
The recent GST 2.0 framework mandated higher taxation for motorcycles in the 350cc-and-above category, which should have raised the X440's price by around Rs. 20,000. However, Hero MotoCorp, Harley's partner for this motorcycle, has chosen to absorb the additional burden rather than pass it on to customers, at least for now.

While Hero recently discontinued the Maverick 440 due to lukewarm demand, the Harley Davidson X440 continues to register healthy sales. By holding prices steady during the festive season, Hero MotoCorp is clearly aiming to protect the X440's momentum and strengthen its appeal among value-conscious buyers.

Rivals Move Differently
Competitors like Royal Enfield have revised their prices upward, with the Scram 440 now costing between Rs. 2.23 lakh and Rs. 2.30 lakh, narrowing the price gap between the two brands. Bajaj, on the other hand, has followed a similar approach to Hero by keeping prices unchanged for the KTM 390 and Triumph 400 models. However, the Bajaj-Triumph duo is working on a smaller 350cc engine to replace its 400cc line-up, but as it stands, the pricing remains intact.
Verdict
In a segment where affordability plays as much of a role as brand aspiration, Harley-Davidson's decision to hold prices on the X440 could prove timely. With festive season demand in play and rivals edging upward in cost, the X440 now sits in a stronger position as a compelling alternative for riders wanting Harley's badge value at an accessible price point. For buyers waiting to bring one home, this may well be the right time to head to a Harley-Davidson showroom.
