Hero Mavrick 440 Shelved For The Mavrick Scrambler?

While the Hero Mavrick 440 still appears on Hero's official website, fresh reports and market observations indicate that the model has effectively been pulled from showrooms. The Mavrick was offered in Base, Mid, and Top variants, priced between Rs. 1.99 lakh and Rs. 2.24 lakh (ex-showroom). Positioned as Hero's most premium offering, it shared its platform with the Harley-Davidson X440 but came with a more roadster-oriented design and cost-conscious components to keep pricing aggressive. Despite a competitive price tag and occasional discounts on e-commerce platforms like Flipkart, the Mavrick 440 struggled to attract buyers.

Its minimalist styling failed to resonate with enthusiasts seeking a more aspirational design, and sales figures reportedly fell to double digits and even zero units in recent months. This lukewarm response likely prompted Hero to rethink its premium strategy. But all is not lost for the Mavrick nameplate, as Hero could choose one of three possible paths for its future: permanently phasing out the model to focus on the Harley-Davidson X440, reintroducing it with premium updates showcased at EICMA 2024 such as USD forks and a TFT colour console, or launching the already-trademarked Mavrick 440 Scrambler, which could bring a more rugged, adventure-oriented spin to the same platform.
Powerplant Shared With Harley X440

The Hero Mavrick 440 was powered by a 440cc single-cylinder engine paired with a 6-speed gearbox and equipped with an assist and slipper clutch for smoother shifts. This motor produced 27 bhp at 6,000 rpm and 36 Nm of peak torque at 4,000 rpm, offering a strong low- and mid-range performance suited for both urban rides and highway cruising.
Verdict
The Mavrick 440 was Hero's first proper step into big-displacement territory, and its discontinuation underscores the challenges the company faces in appealing to premium motorcycle buyers. If the updated or scrambler versions do make a comeback, Hero will have a chance to reposition the Mavrick more effectively against rivals like the Royal Enfield Hunter 450 and Triumph Speed 400. But with the market scenes and the struggles of attracting the premium motorcycle buyer segment, it looks like a bleak chance.
