So, what all has changed with the BS6 update? Let's have a deeper look into the updated Flagship Mahindra.

The 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 has not got any update at all, except the refreshed engine that now complies with BS6 emission norms. That being said, it was a very premium SUV with uber-loads of features and good off-road capabilities and so it doesn't really need a comprehensive update. It is powered by a sole 2.2-litre diesel engine that churns out 180 bhp of maximum power and 420Nm of peak torque, mated to a seven-speed automatic gearbox, sourced from Mercedes-Benz.
Interestingly, the Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 also claims higher mileage than its BS4 counterpart. In its BS6 avatar, the Alturas G4 has an ARAI-claimed mileage of 12.03 kmpl, which is a marginal 0.53 kmpl increase over the BS4 models 11.5 kmpl claimed figure. Mahindra has made the oil-burner comply with the stringent BS6 emission norms with the help of the addition of an SCR (Selective Catalytic Converter), a Diesel Particulate Filter (PDF), AdBlue urea solution and an Exhaust gas recirculation (EGR) system.

The Alturas G4 looks splendid and has a very rich-feel due to the premium quality materials and plush leather used inside the cabin. On the inside, it gets a big touchscreen infotainment system that is compatible with both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay. It also gets a host of safety features like up to nine airbags, front and rear parking sensors, 360-degree parking camera, Electronic Stability Program (ESP), hill start assist, hill descent control, ABS with EBD, cruise control, etc. along with other features like a powered tailgate, ventilated front seats, dual-zone climate control and more.
Like the BS4 iteration, the 2020 Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 is also available in two variants: G2 and G4. The G2 variant comes with a bit fewer features and gets a two-wheel-drive layout (RWD) while the G4 variant is loaded with all the bells and whistles and gets 4x4 offroad-capable drivetrain. The prices for the BS6-compliant Alturas has significantly increased and now it costs around a lakh more than before.

The 2WD (RWD) variant of Mahindra Alturas G4 BS6 has been priced at Rs. 28.69 lakhs while the fully-loaded 4WD variant is priced at Rs. 31.69 lakhs, all prices stick to Ex-showroom Delhi. Also, despite a significant hike in price, it is still cheaper than its rivals like Toyota Fortuner whose diesel variants start at Rs. 30.19 lakhs and Ford Endeavour which starts at Rs. 29.55 lakhs, Ex-showroom.
