There were a number of sedans available in the Indian market around the year 2000. Each of these came with a supreme package that made them a highly VFM product and each of these had something unique to offer. While it was the Honda City which was praised for its sheer amount of power and driving characteristics, it was the Maruti Esteem which brought owning a sedan to the next level. The car became a popular choice for the Indian families and with this being said, in this sequel of Walking Down The Memory Lane, we bring you the Maruti Esteem brochure. Before we start, let me thank Sid for sharing these images with us.

The Maruti Esteem came with a spacious and well-built cabin. The seats were supportive and were extremely comfortable. The dashboard layout was subtle and the car came with soft-touch materials which made it premium and upmarket. The doors opened wide and in all, the Maruti Esteem quickly became an instant hit amongst the buyers who wanted a practical and a comfortable car.

On the exteriors, the Esteem had an elegant look. The front looked appealing and the long hood and the low stance made it one of the best looking cars in the segments. The chrome grille and the round fog lamps further complemented the overall looks while at the rear, the large taillights and the large reverse lamps made it look flashy and eye-catching. The higher variants of the car also featured a sporty spoiler which enhanced the aesthetic appeal of the car.

Powering the Esteem were two engine options - a 1.3-L naturally aspirated petrol engine and a 1.5-L diesel engine. The maximum power output from the 1.3-L petrol engine was 85 bhp while peak torque output figures stood at 105 Nm. The diesel engine on the other hand produced 57 bhp and 96 Nm of maximum torque. Both these engines came mated to a 5-speed gearbox. Both these engines were refined and reliable but it was the petrol engine which was the prefered choice for most of the buyers.
