Mask Inside Car Mandatory? Here's What Delhi High Court Proclaims!

Gone are the days when we used to be terrified by the virus. Be it vaccination or gaining immunity for this virus, the severity of COVID has decreased to a great extent. However, the Delhi Government still stays upright with its orders to mandate the wearing of mask inside the car irrespective of the number of occupants. Multiple people in the city of Delhi have been fined for not obeying this order despite having windows rolled up or even riding all alone. This incident has led to the despair of the public, with multiple petitions being filed regarding the same. When this matter was escalated further, the Delhi HC terms this order by the Delhi Government to be absurd!

All the significant precautions and SOPs regarding COVID-19 were drafted by the Union Health Ministry, where they leveraged state governments to draft and enforce their own laws with respect to the COVID scenario in the region. On this basis, the Delhi Government passed the orders to ensure individuals wear masks all the time, be it riding alone in a vehicle.

Almost all of us began placing our masks inside the vehicle itself, in the glovebox, hanging on the wiper stalks or the IRVM. As per the SOPs, a car, even with the windows rolled all the way up, was considered to be a public place where the occupants should follow all the precautions as stated. With the discomfort caused to the public, the Delhi High Court has asked Delhi Disaster Management Authority (DDMA) to have a relook at the current SOPs and modify the norms as per the change in the Covid situation.
