With CNG adoption rising steadily across India, especially in urban markets, this move is expected to help the brand tap into cost-conscious buyers while aligning with stricter emission norms in the future. The upcoming CNG variant of the Mahindra XUV 3XO is expected to be based on the 1.2-litre turbo-petrol MPFi engine, which currently produces 111 hp and 200 Nm. This engine is more suitable for CNG integration compared to the more advanced TGDi unit, which delivers 128 hp and 230 Nm in the standard petrol version. The XUV 3XO also offers a 1.5-litre diesel engine with both manual and automatic transmission options, but the CNG setup is likely to be limited to the MPFi petrol motor. As seen in similar setups, a slight drop in performance can be expected in CNG mode, with the focus shifting towards efficiency and lower running costs.

The XUV 3XO is already known for its feature-rich package, and the upcoming CNG variant is expected to retain most of its equipment, including dual 10.25-inch displays for infotainment and instrumentation, a Level-2 ADAS suite, a panoramic sunroof, six airbags, and a 360-degree camera. While there may be minor adjustments to accommodate the CNG tank, Mahindra is likely to ensure that the SUV continues to offer a premium experience within the segment.

Reports indicate that the XUV 3XO CNG could arrive in India by late 2026 or early 2027. Once launched, it is expected to be priced between Rs 9 lakh and Rs 12 lakh (ex-showroom), placing it competitively within the segment. Currently, the standard XUV 3XO range is priced between Rs 7.54 lakh and Rs 14.88 lakh, and the addition of a CNG variant will likely slot into the mid-range trims.
Once launched, the XUV 3XO CNG will directly compete with models like the Tata Nexon CNG and Maruti Suzuki Brezza CNG. With CNG vehicle sales growing rapidly in India, especially in cities with strong infrastructure, this variant could play a key role in boosting Mahindra's presence in this space.
